Fits Manfrotto 501PL / 577 Plate but not 501PLong plate

Very strange, this baseplate fits the Manfrotto 501PL / 577 Plate and some other brands of longer, compatible plates (Haoge and SmallRig), but it does NOT fit the Manfrotto 501PLong plate! It is super loose on the 501PLong. However it seems to fit the 501PL/577 and other plates great, pretty tight, with easy top/side loading, which is what I was after. I still need to try it out in the field, but so far seems good. I'm giving it 4 stars because it does not fit the 501PLong. and also because you'll need a 3/8 to 1/4 bushing for one of the screw holes if you attach the bottom to a plate that has two 1/4 holes; this baseplate has two 3/8 threaded holes and a 1/4 threaded hole and it does not come with the bushing (though it should).

Exactly what I was looking for

I've been looking for a secure manfrotto baseplate that can be dropped in and this was the answer. The smallhd attempt at this has a bit of a wobble and this one is solid once locked.

Is this compatible with the plate on the Crane 3s gimbal?
Asked by: John
This is a 501PL style plate. The Crane 3S uses such plates, the two products should be compatible.

Can this be top loaded? Or must it slide in from the end?

I bought 2 of these because they top load and work great when you need to add a plate to a gimbal or plate to a camera rig.

What’s the weight capacity on this baseplate?

That really is more a question for the device this is being mounted to. A safe number would be around 15 pounds, which is what tripod heads that use a 501PL tend to be right around.

Can the release handle be set. up on the left side of the camera instead of the right side? And do you have to press the green button to release the camera?
Asked by: K
The Green Button needs to be depressed to release the plate. You could use the plate in reverse.
