Kirk TQR-1S Overview

The black and satin silver anodized aluminum and steel TQR-1S Tripod Head Quick Disconnect System with Small Plate from Kirk Enterprises attaches to a tripod's spider via its 3/8"-16 mounting thread. This clamp provides a quick release system that enables you to quickly switch out many types of tripod heads for different photographic applications.

The small plate is designed to fit tripod heads with an approximate base diameter of 2.25" or under. A laser-engraved scale on top of the clamp allows accurate positioning of the plate, which is then secured into place by turning the screw locking knob on the clamp. Set screws are included to secure the clamp to the tripod and the plate to the head and to prevent them from moving while mounted together. In addition, a bubble level is located on the side of the clamp to level out your horizon.

Kirk TQR-1S Reviews

Great but no cigar.

I have standardised on these sets. Loads of money. I would like an easier knob to rock ape for my personal confidence. Would like the plates to match the clamps for size. Now, the major issues. The plates will distort without a second locking grub screw. Only pence. Come on! Top tip for the destructions. Tighten the locking grub screws until the plate starts to lift. Tap the plate down with a nylon faced dead blow hammer. This will generate locating dimples in the mounted item. Repeat to prejudice. Mounting a steel object, will need a jewellers drill. That is about it Rgds.

Nice well made plate

Got all sorts of QD plates, as I own 5 tripods and several ballheads - changed to arca-swiss plates a long time ago, and the quick disconnect makes it so easy and simple to change cameras or ballheads - gimbals and gearheads too ofcourse, as I have all with dovetailed plates Lessons learned to stay away from knock-off copies (generally chinese brands) and anything cheap - Kirk is indeed an exception. Mid-range priced (compared to RRS and AS) but high quality and finish. I often prefer the swivel clamp as it makes the tripod a bit more slim - usually the knobs tend to stick out quite a bit ( RRS mostly). Here too Kirk is the exception too. Using it with a gimbal, mounted on a full-sized tripod and a 500mm f/4 lens - no problems of any kind. Once I twist the knob firmly, it stays very well secured, even after logging some miles carrying the setup over my shoulder there is not slack of any kind. I feel confident using this product and bought a second plate Recommended

What is the maximum weight the Kirk TQR-1S, TQR-2L, and TQR-3S can support?

Even Kirk’s web site doesn’t give the weight capacity you may have to call/text them. I use a small unit between a Manfrotto 055 tripod and swap between an Arcatec ball head and a Benro geared 3 Way head. Used with a heavy Nikon D850 and no issues. What you should look at is the size of the Kirk baseplate that connects to the bottom of your heads you want a plate that matches the size of the head. I do recommend using blue loctite on both the clamp to tripod and plate to head connects
