How does this camera compare to sony's ax53? Are there any expert reviews out yet?
Asked by: Robin
The G50 and AX53 compare very well to each other. The G50 has a 1/2.3" sensor compared to 1/2.5" on the AX53. Both shoot UHD 4K at up to 30fps and have a 20x zoom lens. It will come down to brand preference and the actual look of the camera which determines the proper option for you.

How do you get the video files from this camera copied to a computer or imported into FCPX?
Asked by: Mark
The best way to do this is to remove the SD card(s) from the camcorder and use an SD card reader to connect to your computer. You can also use a USB cable (not included with the camcorder) to connect the camcorder directly to the computer and use the camcorder itself as a card reader. A dedicated SD Card reader is normally much faster than plugging the camcorder directly into your computer. Final Cut X has the ability to recognize when a camcorder or SD card is detected and can ingest the footage for you or you can manually transfer the video files.

If using to record to computer, does it automatically shut off? Or, can Auto shutoff be disabled?
Asked by: Robert
By "record to computer", do you mean using HDMI out of the camera and a capture device on your computer? Either way -- yes, this camera can stay powered on indefinitely (or until something goes wrong LOL). I leave mine on for extended periods, while not recording, and have no issue.

Will this record to mp4 files larger than 4GB?
Asked by: kevin
While the exact size of the files recorded is not listed, this camcorder will break up the clips within the Memory Card. However if you follow proper workflow and keep the file structure intact, when you import the footage in to an editing system the video will appear as one complete clip. Proper workflow means that if you copy the footage from your SD card to the computer you must copy and paste the entire contents of the memory card, which includes meta data, and from there important it in to your NLE.

The Canon HF G50 will only provide an HDMI out. To playback this camcorder on an older TV you will need a device like the KanexPro HDMI to Composite with Audio Converter (BH #KAHDRCA) to convert your signal.
