Canon HF G70 Overview

Record high-resolution 4K video with the compact, black Canon Vixia HF G70 4K Camcorder. The G70 features the same form factor and many of the great specs of the G50, including a 1/2.3" UHD 4K CMOS sensor, a DIGIC DV 6 image processor, an 8-blade circular aperture, 5-axis image stabilization, a 20x optical zoom in 4K, and recording up to UHD 4K30 resolution. This streamlined model features a larger 3.5mm LCD capacitive touchscreen display, a higher resolution tiltable 0.36" OLED EVF, recording only in MP4 format, and fast USB-C video-only output with UVC support for live streaming to a computer.

With the G70, you can record simultaneously up to UHD 4K30 3840 x 2160 video to separately available SD cards using the built-in dual SD card slots. Recording features also include slow motion down to 0.5x, fast motion up to 1200x, and interval recording in both HD and 4K. It also embeds time, date, timecode, and other metadata into your video files. The lens features advanced autofocus, a wide 29.3 angle of view, and a 20x optical zoom, which allows zooming to 627mm in 4K. The five-axis advanced image stabilization reduces shake and jitter, especially at longer focal lengths.

There are five assignable buttons around the camera, as well as a joystick, a lens ring, and a custom dial for full control of your settings. The EVF tilts for convenience and comfort, and the adjustable LCD features a touchscreen that provides easy access to your settings.

Also included is an AC adapter with an adapter cable, a BP-820 battery pack, a lens cap, and a lens hood with lens barrier.

Canon 4K Sensor
A 4K sensor and DIGIC DV6 image processor deliver crisp, sharp UHD images, and an 8-blade iris achieves cinema-style out-of-focus highlights. Frame your shot with the ultra-bright 3.5" LCD or use the built-in OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF).
On-Screen Display (OSD) "Time Stamp" Recording
OSD recording embeds date, time, timecode, and other data into your original camera files, effectively "time stamping" the information into each frame of video, a requirement for legal and law enforcement videographers.
UVC Live Streaming
Stream HD video directly from the camera via UVC1 to a Windows or macOS computer. Audio output through USB is not supported.
Take Creative Control
Add impact to your films with dynamic wide and close-up shots captured with the powerful 20x optical zoom and advanced image stabilization. Customize the camera with five assignable buttons and use the built-in ND filters to adjust exposure for wider apertures or slower shutter speeds.
Fast, Precise Focusing with Face Detection
The VIXIA HF G70 features an advanced Hybrid AF system with focusing speed adjustable for either Fast or Smooth AF. Using the ultra-bright 3.5" LCD, set the focus by simply touching the AF point you need. For even greater accuracy and convenience, especially in busy environments where you need to keep a subject in frame, Face Detection AF and Face Tracking is also available, while Manual Focus is set via the focus/zoom ring.
MP4 Recording
The VIXIA HF G70 supports MP4 recording, specifically, 4K UHD at 150 Mb/s 30/24p, plus 1080p at 35 Mb/s or 17 Mb/s at 60/30/24p.
Professional Output, Custom Picture Menu, Audio Scene Select
A host of output and recording options include Infrared mode, Slow-Motion recording in 5x Full HD, Fast Motion recording in UHD 4K/1080p up to 1200x, and an array of Scene modes. A custom picture menu enables color matching with other Canon cameras, while audio scene mode adds sound recording tuned to your environment. Simultaneous backup and relay recording via dual SD card slots are also included.

I have this camera and I love it, I sincerely recommend anyone buying this camera. It's not the best camera in the world but it's a darn good one, I'm glad I bought it. It's helped me make videos for a company that I help run. The video and sound is amazing. However, I do recommend using an external microphone versus the one that is built in.

Maybe I'm being picky but I'm an old and grumpy professional photographer. I am a fan of Canon cameras and have worked with them most of my life. This is not your prosumer canon camcorder of old. Its menus are almost Sony stupid. They are laid out simply but navigation through them is barely adequate, The joystick works sometimes and well sometimes it does not. There are times you will be forced to open the side viewfinder and touch screen your way through the settings. There is nothing intuitive here, if you pick it up you will have to read the manual if you want any chance of figuring it out. THE PEAKING IN LOW LIGHT is undependable at best. DONT EXPECT TO BE IMPRESSED. Luckily the viewfinder is adequate to focus from. All input and output covers are rubber flaps. The inconvenience of the thing kicked me over the edge to comment as I was trying to export video. I popped open the side view screen expecting to scroll through the clips to quickly view and export and xh!?x!!!, I will need to read the owner's manual to even figure out how to view all the clips after making a selection to view a single clip. Canon must have hired a bunch of Adobe engineers and a Sony management team to design this thing. THIS IS NOT THE CANON CAMERA OF OLD WHERE YOU PICK IT UP AND ALL THE BUTTONS ARE EXACKLEY WHERE YOU EXPECT THEM AND THEY DO EXACKLEY WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. Get ready to have a click fest to manage even the simplest adjustments and if you managed to get sober in the last ten years this camera may encourage you back to drinking. Oh one last thing, there is no printed Manual, you guessed it. it is a pdf. Just delightfull.....

Yes. The Canon HF G70 can take 8.29mp still images .The G70 will also have an external 3.5mm TRS microphone input for accepting external microphones and accessory shoe available for placement.
