So far so good with this drive. Very good price point and works very well so far. I did a lot of research on reasonably priced drives to use for Time Machine backups on a new (refurbished) MacBook Pro (with a 4 Terabyte drive). I saw some very old reviews for the LaCie drive that didn't rate it very well, but that was when the original versions used a Seagate Barracuda drive, at some point, Lacie switched to using a Seagate Iron Wolf Pro drive which appears to be a better drive (resulting in better reviews apparently). I formatted the LaCie drive for APFS (as recommended when using solely for a MacBook Pro), and I'm using a Thunderbolt rated USB-C cable to connect it. The Time Machine backups run pretty quick with this cable, even with the very first backup, and even considering that the LaCie drive is not an SSD. My prior setup was an older MacBook Pro using a Seagate Barracuda for backups which never gave me any issues, so I anticipate this new setup with newer MacBook and LaCie drive will work just as well, even better with the Thunderbolt cable!

Easy to install and us. only wish they had more usb ports so you could daisy chaine with Lacie Hard Drives.

The 8TB drive is neither TB2 or TB3, but it is compatible with TB3 ports and cables. Spinning hard drives are innately far slower than type C or Thunderbolt 3 cables or ports are capable of. Mega bytes vs Giga Bytes. So the whole thing is mute.

Yes, the LaCie 8TB d2 Professional USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 External Hard Drive can be used on a 2014 27" iMac with USB 3 ports, however transfer speeds will be slower.

As per the manufacture it would be ideal to only use the official LaCie 8TB d2 Professional USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C External Hard Drive's power cord.
