Swift M17T-P Overview

The Swift Optical M17T-P Infinity-Corrected Corded LED Binocular Microscope is a versatile microscopy device that can be easily used by researchers, inspectors, industrial professionals, and forensic technicians with the capability to attach a camera for recording, streaming, or casting to a projector.

The trinocular head has a C-mount camera port on the top that accepts an optional adapter, so C-mount imaging devices can be attached without affecting the ability to use the eyepieces. Its binocular-view 10x wide field eyepieces, when combined with the four objectives, produce magnifications from 40x to 1000x. Plan (planar) objectives present a flat field of view across almost the entire field of view, so the only noticeable curvature (spherical aberration) will be around the extreme edges of the view. The objectives are all parfocal and parcentered, so that little or no focus adjustment is required when changing magnifications, and the center of the view will remain consistent between objectives. The optical performance is complemented by a dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser, Siedentopf-style head, left-eye dioptric correction, and a wide interpupillary adjustment range—making it easy to achieve tack-sharp views and convenient for multiple people to share the eyepieces. A large tray features a mechanical specimen holder, a 1.25 rack-and-pinion Abbe condenser, and an iris-style diaphragm.

Use and Handling
  • Trinocular head features a camera port on the top that allows optional imaging systems to be attached for streaming over the Internet, recording to a computer, or casting to a projector for classroom demonstrations
  • Head set at a 30° angle to place user's head in a comfortable viewing position
  • Binocular eyepiece configuration makes it easier and more comfortable to use versus monocular heads
  • Siedentopf-style head design enables the interpupillary distance between eyepieces to be adjusted without affecting the focus—making it easier and more convenient to share between multiple people
  • Left-eye dioptric correction enables precise accommodation for individual eye prescriptions to ensure views are tack sharp for all users
  • Wide interpupillary adjustment range accommodates a variety of users
  • Microscope runs on 110-220 VAC power, supplied with a three-prong grounded US wall outlet plug
Optical Performance
  • Comfortable binocular-view eyepieces with 54-76mm Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment
  • Selectable magnifications: 40x, 100x, 400x, and 1000x
  • Dual wide field 10x 20mm eyepieces
  • DIN standard 4x (0.10 N.A.), 10x (0.25 N.A.), 40xR (0.65 N.A.), and 100xR oil immersion (1.25 N.A.) plan objectives
  • 100x objective is spring-loaded and sealed to protect optics from contact or oil damage
  • Infinity corrected optical system allows auxiliary components like illuminators and polarizers to be added into the optical path with only a minimal effect on focus—ideal for research labs, forensics, and industrial and metallurgical applications
  • Plan (planar) objectives correct spherical aberration for virtually the entire field of view so specimens will appear flat with the only perceptible curvature at the edges
  • Objectives are parfocal so little or no focus correction is required when switching between magnifications and parcentered so the center of the view will remain the same when changing objectives
  • Color-coded objectives provide fast identification of the selected magnification
  • Quad-objective turret is mounted in reverse position to facilitate ease in changing slides with ball bearings for smooth and precise positioning of objectives
Stage and Illumination
  • Dual-speed coarse and fine rack-and-pinion focusing mechanism moves the stage up and down to achieve proper focus
  • Coarse tension adjustment prevents stage slippage so focusing remains sharp when knob is released
  • Large 5.75 x 5.5" stage easily holds specimens other than slides
  • Built-in, low-profile, ball-bearing mounted mechanical specimen holder with low-position coaxial controls
  • 1.25 Abbe rack-and-pinion condenser
  • Iris-style diaphragm with lever control allows user to improve their subject's contrast for improved views
  • Variable-intensity lower 3W LED illuminator provides transmitted specimen illumination
