FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR Overview

Complementing the lens itself, the FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR Lens with UV Filter Kit from B&H bundles the short-telephoto prime with a 62mm UV filter.

FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR Lens

A fast telephoto prime for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras, the XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR is a 137mm-equivalent lens featuring a bright f/2 maximum aperture for low-light performance and extensive control over focus placement. The optical design incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing and a Super EBC coating has been applied to control flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. Complementing the optical assets, this lens also features a weather-sealed design for working in harsh environments and has a Quad Linear Motor for quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.

Prime telephoto lens is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 137mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field.
Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
A Quad Linear Motor autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
The lens body incorporates seven distinct weather seals to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Chiaro Pro 62mm 98-UVATS UV Filter

The Pro 62mm 98-UVATS UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A scratch-resistant coating minimizes scratching of the glass and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. Its hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it is thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. Side knurling helps assure that you’ll have a firm grip when attaching or removing your filter.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so that you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

98% Light Transmission

Protecting your lens doesn't mean you have to lose optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass and advanced coatings, Chiaro offers a 98% transmission rate, which is an excellent transmission rate for glass. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.

Resistance Coating

The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allow you to easily clean your filter. Water beads up and rolls off your filter, and oil and fingerprints can come off with a gentle wipe. Dust and debris won't adhere to the filter and can be removed with a puff of air.

Polished Optical Glass

Glass that's polished to perfection is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is highly-polished for flatness that ensures excellent optical clarity.

Multi-Coating

Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.

UV Protection

The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.

Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction

The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.

Slim Design

Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.

Top and Side Knurling

In addition to top knurling, Chiaro added side knurling to better grip the filter when you're attaching and removing it, or when you're stacking filters.

Secure Attachment

It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.

Front Threads

The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

Would the be a lens to use for say Capturing whitetail deer at dusk on a Tx2?
Asked by: Michael
It would be ok but may be a bit lacking as far as distance, you would be much better off getting a fast tele lens like the 50-140mm, click on the link below; https://bhpho.to/3a1We2C

Is there a focus limiter on the 90mm? The user manual notes two focus ranges: "Normal" and "Macro". But I don't see a focus limit switch.

question

How come people say the 90mm F/2 is not for use indoors because it doeen't have stabilization, and yet I have no problem using my 16-55mm f/2.8, which is heavier and doesn't have stabilization either, indoors? Why would the fact the 90mm f/2 lens doesn't have stabilization be a problem then?
Asked by: Anonymous
As long as you keep your shutter speed up (1/180 if you use the dial), there will be no problem using it indoor. I think what you have to consider is the narrow field of view (90mm on Fuji sensor is more like 135mm full frame), as you don't always get enough distance to frame your subject.

question

Recommend this lens or the 80 mm for youth sports? I was also considering the 55-200mm 3.5-4.8.
Asked by: Benjamin A.
I'm leaning to agree with the former comments. I use the 90mm for its sharpness in landscape photography for compression and for close up subjects. Within sports use while the subjects are moving in and out, you would want the flexibility of zoom control, but as in so many cases in photography, if you had one lens and it were the 90mm f2 one could make it happen, but the loss percentage would probably go up.
