Viltrox NF-E1 Overview

This Lens Mount Adapter from Viltrox is designed to allow a Nikon F-mount lens to be used with a Sony E-mount camera. If a compatible lens includes autofocus, as well as camera-controlled aperture functions, this adapter is intended to allow those features to be used. Also, if an attached lens is capable of generating Exif metadata when used with a directly compatible camera, this adapter is designed to allow that information to be saved as well.

The underside of this adapter's tripod foot is tapped with a 1/4"-20 accessory thread, providing direct attachment to a tripod or quick release plate that features a 1/4"-20 mount.

In video mode, the lens switches to MF (manual mode). Autofocus does not work at all in video mode. Autofocus only works in photo mode. Sony A7SIII with Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 VR I tried different lenses too. Same result.

Can Brick your a6500 like the Fotodiox Adapter

DO NOT BUY!! BRICKS CAMERAS. Much like the Fotodiox F-E adapter, the Viltrox F-E adapter bricked my Sony a6500 after only minutes of use. I exchanged the a6500 through B&H and the adapter did the *same thing to the second unit*. Replacing batteries with a brand new one, leaving the battery out overnight, replacing the SD card, plugging it into a computer to attempt to initiate USB transfer mode; nothing worked to get the camera to turn back on! It completely broke my camera! While it is common practice to turn the camera off when changing lenses, you will make the mistake of changing lenses with the camera on from time to time. That mistake should NOT cost you the entire camera! Especially when doing the same with E-mount lenses doesn’t brick the camera and only poses a dust risk. When it DID work though, it did an OK job. with my two Nikon Prime lenses, AF was on the slower side, and sometimes AF wouldn’t work at all unless you removed the lens and put it back on (again, with the risk on bricking your camera if you forget to turn it off while removing a lens). With my telescopic 70-300mm Nikon lens, it had great difficulty focusing when zoomed past 175mm+ and once it “focused,” it was incorrect. The adapter is completely useless with the 70-300mm lens, and is only adequate with the 35mm and 50mm prime lenses. With all F-mount Nikon lenses, certain features of the camera will not work including: some AF modes, some AF area modes, center tracking, Eye AF, and the AF illumination light. Either way, the pros of being able to use your Nikon glass on your Sony body do NOT at all outweigh the cons of your Sony body completely bricking and unable to turn on. You will save money buying new E-Mount lenses versus having to buy a new camera body when this adapter bricks yours. This is a serious issue that should be brought to the attention of Viltrox.

Viltrox NF-E1 Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera will maintain limited electronic communication between the Nikon F-mount (G) series lenses and Sony FS7 or FS700. You can control the lens aperture and access metadata information on your files. Vibration Reduction is the functionality of the lens therefore you can select VR on or off directly on your lens. Unfortunately, autofocus will remain disabled.

Viltrox has not confirmed compatibility of the Viltrox NF-E1 Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera with the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F. The manufacturer's website only lists testing and compatibility with the following Sigma lenses: the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 HSM Lens, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC HSM Lens, Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8DC Lens, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8DG HSM EX Lens, Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS Lens, Sigma 50-150mm f/4 DC APO HSM Lens, Sigma 14mm f/2.8 D EX Lens, Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG Lens, Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Lens, and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DC HSM Lens.

Unfortunately the Autofocus function is not available in video mode. Exif Data, Aperture control and VR is available in Video. But AutoFocus is not.

Does this adapter work with the Sony A7s ii and a Sigma EX DG50mm Nikon mount lens?

I submitted the question to help me decide on this purchase. Exposure is accurate and , EXIF data is accurate. Everything works except auto-focus which simply hunts aimlessly, momentarily pauses - sometimes in focus - sometimes nearly in focus - and sometimes totally out of focus, then starts wandering again. Quickly actuating the shutter during the pauses gives accurate focus about 25% of the time. Manual over-ride is not possible, as the motor continues to drive the hunting expedition even as you provide manual input with the focus ring. Manual focus is accurate and easy with any Sony body that provides focus peaking.
