Viltrox NF-NEX Reviews

Accurately Machined & Functional

I have used this adapter with AI/AI-S lenses as well as G. The f-stop ring is generically numbered; leave it wide open to manage f-stop via lens. I would consider the foot mount to be nice, but I’ve never used it as I’m typically using a prime lens. I don’t have an issue tightening the foot to the lens and it looks like a full set of threads to mount the foot to your favorite tripod or mount adapter. I have been using this adapter for a few years now and lent it out with no issues experienced or reported.

Works!

Foot doesn't lock down. The ring numbers don't mean much. But it works, it's a steal, and gives me tele and macro options from legacy lenses. For manual focusing (AiS) lenses, give the ring a big twist to swing between wide open to an f-stop preset on the lens. The Tamron SP 150-600 (G1) becomes a working manual tripod lens.

Does this allow metering, and can it be used with Nikon manual focus lenses (AI-S)?

The Viltrox NF-NEX Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount, D or G-Type Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera does not have built-in electronic contacts. As such, it does not transfer electronic information such as autofocus, image stabilization, aperture control via the camera dials, or EXIF information to the camera. Sony states that correct metering cannot be achieved when you use lenses that do not provide a lens contact. In such cases, adjust the exposure manually by checking it on the recorded image. If you use a Nikon AI-S lens on the above lens adapter, you would either have to open the aperture ring on the adapter to the largest setting, then use the lens' adapter ring to adjust your aperture setting, or vice versa, open the aperture ring on the lens all the way, then use the aperture ring on the lens adapter to control your aperture (this may be preferred if you need a de-clicked aperture for video recording needs).

The tripod foot on the Viltrox NF-NEX Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount, D, or G-Type Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera cannot be removed. The adapter is compatible with all lenses with a Nikon F mount. However, this manual adapter does not support autofocus or any camera-to-lens communication.

How do you set the aperture on the lens to use this adapter? Full aperture or full closure? And what about the adapter aperture?
Asked by: Marco
The Viltrox NF-NEX Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount, D or G-Type Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera provides the aperture ring to control the f- stops on the lens. If you own Nikon F-mount D type lenses, you must lock the aperture ring to f/22 and control the aperture through the lens adapter.
