Sennheiser MD 421-II Microphone

The Sennheiser MD 421-II Microphone is a cardioid, dynamic microphone popularized by the recording and broadcast industry. The MD 421-II is favored for its ability to handle a variety of applications due to its flexible bass control. The microphone features a 5-position bass roll-off switch and frequency response of 30 to 17,000 Hz. The cardioid polar pattern effectively rejects off-axis noise due to room acoustics and noise, and also provides effective feedback rejection often caused by monitors positioned within close proximity.

The MD 421-II features a dynamic capsule, allowing even signal response whether close-up or at a reasonable distance. This is particularly useful for broadcast applications, where announcers and DJs can refrain from remaining absolutely stationary. The MD 421-II also handles very high sound pressure levels, making it suitable for miking instruments high in transient (peak) response.

Dynamic Capsule
The MD 421-II features a dynamic capsule, resulting in even signal response in close and reasonable distances as well as the capacity to handle high SPL levels.
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The cardioid polar pattern is effective in attenuating off-axis noise and ambiance. The cardioid polar pattern is also effective in rejecting feedback due to monitors.
5-Position Bass Roll-Off
The 5-position low frequency roll-off switch offers flexible bass attenuation allowing the microphone to be used in a variety of situations.

Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator
The Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator from Cloud Microphones is a compact, single-input solution for common audio problems in the field and in the studio involving low-output passive microphones, including ribbon mics. The CL-1 uses any standard phantom-powered mixer or microphone input device to provide up to +25 dB of clean, transparent gain. This improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs, making them ideal for broadcast, live, and studio applications. The CL-1 is housed in a rugged steel enclosure which offers shielding and durability. Additionally, the CL-1 has provisions for stage or stand mounting.
Transparent Gain
Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output and keeps the direct audio path free-and- clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. The CL-1 houses discrete JFET circuitry that delivers clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source
Useful for a Variety of Applications
  • Use with noisy or low-gain preamps
  • Use with mixers/preamps that negatively impact the sound at higher gain settings
  • Use with low-output dynamic microphones and ribbons
  • Mic softer sound sources such as acoustic instruments and voice
  • Use for long cable runs
Features at a Glance
  • Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output
  • Provides 2 distinct stages of clean gain
  • Easy to use self-contained design requires only phantom power
  • Recommended for use with all passive dynamic microphones
  • Compatible with tube, battery, or power-supply-driven microphones
  • Safe for all passive ribbons with no transfer of phantom
  • Utilizes Patent Pending Class-A, discrete JFET circuitry
  • Ideal impedance loading for optimal performance at 3 kilohms
  • Rugged, road ready, and portable, for studio, stage, and broadcasting

Kopul Studio Elite 4000 Series Neutrik XLR M to XLR F Microphone Cable (10', Black)

The Kopul Studio Elite 4000 Series XLR M to XLR F Microphone Cable (10') is a studio-quality cable for connecting mics to mixers, preamps, audio interfaces, and recorders or to be used in any other application where XLR connectivity is required. The cable is engineered to be both quiet and durable, and is well suited for critical recording and broadcast situations.

Studio Elite 4000 Series cables are made from 24 AWG OFC copper wire that's wrapped with PE insulation and a conductive PVC inner shield. A cotton-yarn inner layer helps reduce electrostatic and microphonic noise. A 98% braided outer shield makes the cable resistant to EMI and RFI noise. The Neutrik XX silver connectors provide a high level of connectivity, and all the solder connections are shrink-wrapped for protection.

98% braided shield offers protection from EMI and RFI noise.
Twin-conductive PVC inner shielding provides 100% coverage of the core conductor. It helps keep the cable's signal from radiating and affecting nearby cables, and also helps prevent external EMI from penetrating to the cable's core.
24 AWG oxygen-free stranded copper inner core provides the best possible conductivity.
Cotton yarn reduces electrostatic and microphonic noise.
All solder points shrink-wrapped for protection.
Neutrik XX silver connectors offer high conductivity.
Cast zinc shell and chuck style strain relief.

question

what is the specs for the bass roll off switch for the 421?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are actually 5 roll off settings on the 421. The M position is for Music and no roll off's are engaged. At the other end of the spectrum S is for Speech which is the steepest roll off. Each turn of the roll off switch offers a steeper suppression of the entire frequency range beginning roughly at 1000Hz. So if one starts at M with each click of the roll off ring one click sees 100Hz being suppressed by 4dB,another click suppress 100Hz by an additional 3dB and so on.Remember the roll off is gradual at 6dB per octave. Resulting in a gentle slope as opposed to a cut off. Best uses are Tom Tom's, electric guitar and percussion.
