The Heat Company Polartec Wind Overview

Keep your hands dry and warm with the Polartec Wind Pro Liner Gloves from The Heat Company. Made from Polartec Wind Pro fabric, these gloves will be your reliable companion in wind and weather. The fabric is water repellent and keeps out four times more wind than conventional fleece. The fabric is also breathable and adds heat without adding weight.

On really cold days, a pocket on the back of each glove holds disposable handwarmers, or can be used to stow cash, credit cards, or your ID for safe keeping. The fingertips on these gloves allow you to easily operate your touchscreens, and D-rings allow you to connect them to your overlayers, so they don't get lost.

These Polartec Wind Pro Liner Gloves can be worn as the first layer of the Heat Layer System under the Shell gloves. They are designed to combine warmth with freedom of movement.
High elasticity for an optimal fit and freedom of movement.
To find your size, measure the circumference of your palm at the widest point, just below your fingers. This size 9 glove equates to a hand circumference of 7.9-8.8".

The Heat Company Polartec Wind Reviews

Impressive gloves

Impressive liners that stand alone as warm gloves at freezing temperatures, but allow use of cameras and smartphones.

Warm and windproof, but not enough dexterity

I bought these together with The Heat Company Heat 2 Softshell Mittens, both in the recommended sizes using their own sizing chart (8 for the gloves and 9 for the mittens). I planned to use them for outdoor photography in the cold. The index finger turn out to be too thick to consistently find the buttons on my Canon DSLR, or to feel the half press on the shutter button. The thumb is fine for the AF-ON button though. I tested them with a thin merino wool liner on one hand and The Heat Co liner on the other, and I can feel a noticeable difference. Polartec Wind Pro works as advertised in the warmth and wind proofing department. Another side point, even if these gloves were sensitive enough to work a camera with, I would still need to get a larger mitten. The Heat Co's sizing chart seems to assume all their liners are the same thickness. Their size 8 Polartec Wind Pro liners inside their size 9 Softshell Mittens are tight. My hands actually feel colder with this combination, maybe because of cut off circulation? I'm returning these, keeping the Softshell Mittens and using them with merino liners and hand warmer packets. Not as warm ultimately, but if you can't work the shutter that's no good. Life's a compromise.

They are ok warm but

A bit bulky. I used them for a week of winter shooting at Arches and Canyonlands with temps in the low mid 20 and they were ok in keeping my hands warm (and I clearly have a circulation problem in my fingers) but to use all the buttons and dials of a mirrorless with them is a bit challenging, at times I had to take them of to change settings of the cameras.

Garbage

I had purchased The Heat Company gloves from B&H many years ago that have a liner built in (and are a full snow mitten too). I wanted to purchase a new set for photography in extreme cold conditions. I bought these liners and the mittens separate. I tested these once alone at an NFL game with 40-45 degree weather. My hands were cold even with hand-warmers in the top. Absolutely garbage for $70. Not to mention, after literally only wearing for the second half, they are pitting up and feel stretched out. B&H cannot do anything for me due to the fact that I don't have the original packing anymore. A shame as I am out $70 for gloves that easily feel like they are maybe $10. Avoid!

So far so good

I've only worn them twice so far, but they have been a lot warmer than the gloves I was wearing prior. Today was the first time I used the hand warmers in the little pouch on the back of the hand and I think that helped a lot. My only issue with them is they are a little more bulky than I had hoped. I may have ordered the wrong size, but I followed their company website on how to measure. I believe once I get use to them, they will definitely be worth the investment.

Great gloves

These gloves work really well. I have long fingers and they fit great and work well with landscape photography.

Too thick to be liners

B&H doesn't seem to have the glove liners that I bought last time so I tried these. Don't like them. Too thick to be liners and too thick to allow feeling through the finger tips. These would be great for driving your car on a cold day but not for flying drones or flipping small switches on your camera body. Also, to wear these under gloves, the gloves would have to be HUGE. My hand measures 10, the size 11 fit well.

Excellent fit liner type glove that you can use by itself

Rather than getting a combined glove with the liner sewn into the outer mitten, I got these liners instead. Heat Co's size guide on their website worked as these fit me perfectly, and like my headline says - they work well on their own if you don't need to full outer shell mitten with them, e.g. warmer but not warm weather. They do reduce the wind effects on your fingers

I purchased them to wear in the snow, and they did keep my hands warm and dry. I don't know if they would keep your hands dry in the rain for an extended period of time or not. Because they are advertised as being "Water Repellent" as opposed to "Waterproof" my best guess would be no. I hope this helps.

Will these gloves keep your hands warm if wet? I understand they're "water repellent", but I've NEVER seen water repellent gloves actually keep hands dry.
Asked by: Bill
Yes. Very warm. The gloves are water repellent does not mean that they can be submerged in water.

This question is in relation to my previous ...

This question is in relation to my previous question about water repellency. I don't really care how repellent they are; my question is "Will they keep your hands warm if they are soaking wet?" My hands will get wet because I dip my hands completely underwater to grab things. Wool gloves retain warmth even if wet, but they take a long time to dry, and they don't have e-tips. I assume Polartec will dry much faster, but will they retain heat while they are still wet, like wool does?
Asked by: Bill
It is better than no gloves using the The Heat Company Polartec Wind Pro Liner Gloves. But like most, once your hands eventually get wet they will get cold at some point.
