Pyle Pro PMXU46BT Overview

The 4-Channel Bluetooth Studio Mixer, DJ Controller Audio Mixing Console System from Pyle Pro is a compact 4-channel, Bluetooth-enabled audio mixer designed to provide multichannel mixing capabilities for DJs, musicians, sound engineers, and performers in clubs, conferences, houses of worship, and live stage applications. It features four XLR-1/4" combo jack inputs and RCA input/output jacks. The microphone preamps offer selectable 48V phantom power and up to 64 dB of gain.

All input channels boast a 3-band EQ with peak indicators. A per-channel FX send knob passes signal to the internal 32-bit DSP effects engine, which has 16 selectable effect presets. A mono 1/4" Aux send and return is provided in case external effects are desired.

Stream music from your mobile device to the built-in Bluetooth receiver or play MP3 audio files from your flash drive via the USB Type-A port. The USB port enables audio interface functionality when connected to a computer. Hook up monitors to the 1/4" main and monitor outputs and connect a set of headphones to the 1/4" stereo headphone jack, which sports a dedicated level control.

Trying This In Newsroom Setting

Picked one of these up to test, since we were unable to find a detailed description of what the mixer actually does (and haven't been able to find a schematic). Our goal, determine if this could work in a broadcast-type environment. For the record, we use Yamaha MG124's in all our studios (due to being the only mixer with an ON light for every channel). That said, setup is easy. We use channel 1 for a microphone; 2 for a guest mic; 3 for mono feed from the computer; and 4 has caller audio from a telephone coupler (Excaliber HC-1). We use a 1/4 output to feed from MAINS to the computer (Behringer LINE 2 USB), and a 1/4 from AUX OUT to send audio to the telephone. Using the AUX bus allows us to mix-minus the audio back to the caller. This is for a newsroom-type situation and works great. The mixer does feature a USB output whereby you use a USB-A to USB-A cable to feed the computer (bidirectional audio). Unfortunately, we have been unable to control any levels from the mixer in the computer. Normally, you can go to sound settings and adjust the incoming volume, but not with this mixer. The only control is from the main faders on the mixer which, when you adjust, also deem the very good metering display void. This must be some design flaw on behalf of Pyle mixers and I wish they'd fix it. On the negative side, there is no separate output for studio monitors. We can work around this by connecting a headphone amp (Behringer HA400) to the RCA outputs and control headphones that way, then you can use the headphone output to control monitor speakers. One last complaint is that the mixer will not perform in a high RF environment. We found crosstalk and signal noise on every channel and every output, but that will not affect most applications. Now that we know how the mixer actually performs, we'll be discussing whether to replace our Yamaha mixers with a Pyle. Since we need more stereo inputs - especially for return audio from the computer (DAW) - we'll be looking at the 8 or 12 channel options. Since we cannot find anything comparable to the Yamaha mixers (with the ON light vs. a light that illuminates when MUTED), we want mixers that have fewer options to derail our operators. This might just be the solution. Overall, great mixer for the money.

This is a really good mixer. Only thing that was a little tricky what’s the button to switch between the USB play songs on a USB drive and the Bluetooth to connect to a computer.

can you interface a laptop and playout dj software through the usb?

The Pyle Pro 4-Channel Bluetooth Studio Mixer and DJ Controller Audio Mixing Console System can be connected to a computer for DJ software playback. However, since it is not a DJ controller, you will not have access to the DJ software features and functionality from the mixer.
