Good option for Gemini Hard
The main body is made of solid metal, and there is a beefy Mafer clamp on the back. The actual battery plates themselves are made out of a brittle plastic and I suspect they wouldn't take a fall without breaking. The power switch on the top is low profile and doesn't have much travel, so there's no real satisfying click as to whether it's on or not. It also feels fragile and moves around in its hole. The plate is supplied with (I think?) a six foot 3pin cable. This is not long enough. If you are clamping the plate to a light stand, you want that weight low for stability. The short cord means you can't raise the actual LED panel very high on the stand before you run out of cable. There are LED lights on either side of the 3pin output on the plate that change colour based I'm assuming on the state of charge of the battery. Green means go. Amber had the light still going, but I assume that means you're getting near the end of your battery life. There was some confusion on B&H's website about powering options for the Gemini Hard. The power input on the light, whether you are running it off a battery plate or the power supply, is a 3pin XLR socket for 26 Volt power. This plate is great for that because it lets you combine two regular 14.4v batteries together to achieve that, and it's relatively easy to do a rough estimate of how long your batteries will last since the light draws about 200 watts: two 160wH 14v batteries will run the light at full power for roughly 1.6 hours. There is also a single battery plate advertised on B&H's site to run a Gemini Hard, the 900-3704. B&H says it has a 4pin output cable and that it will run the light off a single 14.4 volt battery. I haven't seen this plate so I don't have first hand evidence, but I do know the light doesn't accept a 4pin power cable. I would also suspect that if you're using a single battery, it would have to be a 26v battery. Either way, that means an expensive high amperage single battery. If you have the space and can buy a longer 3pin cable, this dual plate is the way to go in my opinion.
excellent addition to the Gemini
This really helps to make the Gemini more portable and user friendly ....would recommend ....
