Viltrox VX-18M Reviews
Solid & Tall
I am happy with the leg portion of this tripod so far. The height is amazing, and stability is no issue. The flat rubber feet are great, although the loop handles sort of get in the way of the locks at its shortest height. Not the biggest fan of the knobs for the leg locks, hoping they retain their grip long term. The head is not good, but I expected that when I bought it. The tilt mechanism is virtually useless, going from locked to loose with no amount of partial resistance in-between. Panning seems to be relatively smooth, but will occasionally make a soft scraping noise. The pan bar teeth seem very small, and you can not adjust the length of the bar, it only rotates. As mentioned I knew the head would be an issue ahead of time, and plan to swap it out right away.
Nice!
Sure its heavy, but also is very sturdy and love the height it can get up to. Wish the mounting plate was longer so I could get two 1/4-20s thru it easily, but made it work with some tinkering. If you are going to put anything more built up than a small dslr or mirrorless on it, I'd get two mounting points on it because it does like to slip with only one point. Highly recommend!
Tripod is alright, but the pan arm does not attatch properly
I was really excited to receive this so quickly in the mail. However, the pan arm for the tripod does not work properly. The latch does not secure well and it rattles even when screwed on all the way. I'm disappointed since B&H was recommended to me by a friend since it has good service and products. I won't be able to return the tripod since I need the it for a trip in 2 days. Maybe some tape will hold it together...
Works great
So far so good. It's very sturdy and I plan to use it with a motorized slider. Everything seems to hold up well.
Rugged and Compact
This tripod was a great upgrade from our entry level tripod. This may still be considered entry level, but it feels much more sturdy than others I have used. My only downside would be for panning left and right. I had to loosen the nut/completely remove it in order to utilize this axis. You have much better control for tilting on the Y axis, even with a significant rig placed on top.
Great Heavy Duty Tripod
Great heavy duty sturdy tripod. Not ideal for being on the go and agile but this one works well. That said, I am noticing that one of the legs on mine after a couple months of use will slip if a little bit of pressure is applied to it. I am not sure what to do about this I've tried tightening some of the screws but it hasn't done anything. I think there may be a way to fix it that I haven't tried but I haven't gotten around to it yet and it's a bummer that the slippage happens. That said it doesn't happen during most normal use. Really only if a little pressure is applied directly to that leg.
Nice
Great, exactly what I expected! Good quality, solid. Can't beat the price, better than Manfrotto for the same amount.
Best value for the price
It's nothing like a Manfrotto tripod system, BUT, for $140 you cannot go wrong with it. It goes up to 74" (which is like 6'1) and payload is 13 pounds. I had a hard time finding a tripod that goes that tall and can sustain that weight for that price, and I found it!
