Designed for the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens, the AP-601 Quick Release Replacement Foot from Wimberley is an anodized 6061 aluminum foot that is Arca-type compatible for use with most clamps and heads on the market. By replacing the original factory foot, the AP-601 adds rigidness and stability and reduces flex and vibration while mounted on a head. Additionally, a double dovetail allows accessories to attach to the bottom or the top of the foot. The lower profile of the plate provides better balance when mounted on a head as well. If you're going to use the optional safety stop screws, Wimberley recommends using a clamp with channels, which allow the screws on the foot to slide back-and-forth.

Wimberley AP-601 Reviews
Nice but not perfect
The two main reasons for choosing this foot are - Arca-Swiss mount, and lower profile (easier to pack). There is still enough clearance to use it as a carrying handle (I'm using it on RF 100-300 f/2.8), but the OEM Canon foot, which is much larger, is more comfortable as a handle (Canon has a smoother contour and rubberized padding - nice!). I would normally get the RRS foot, but they seem to be having problems keeping anything in-stock lately - long wait times. The quality of material and machining is excellent on the Wimberly - but the smoothness, polish and finish of the anodizing is always superb on the RRS products. I wish Wimberly would finish the foot in matching canon white powder-coat, since all the lenses it fits are also white...
Height adjustment for Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 III USM
This device was purchased along with an Oben GH-30C gimble. When using the arca lens plate that comes with the gimble I found I could not center a Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 III USM close to the tilt axis of the gimble. It was off (eye balling) by close to inch. The Wimberley AP-601 Quick Release Replacement Foot for the above mentioned lens drops the mounting height of the lens which allows a closer adjustment to the tilt position of the gimble for the lens.
