The HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR from Blackmagic Design is an 8K recorder featuring a large display with standard touchscreen deck controls for viewing recordings. It also has physical deck controls on its left side and two CFast card slots on the right. Ideally, it would be used together with the optional HyperDeck Extreme Control deck, which provides traditional deck control features with a built-in editor for automating the ingest of legacy videotape-based programming. Both have the same 3 RU, half-rack width size and can be installed beside each other in a rack and combined into a traditional broadcast deck for a comprehensive workflow.

I have seen that this hyperdeck has a Slot for Optional M.2 PCIe NVMe Card for Cache Recording. ¿How can I install it and where can I buy it?
Asked by: Hever
On the bottom of the HyperDeck there is a plate with 6 screws. With the unit turned off and disconnected, remove the screws and plate, insert the M.2 PCIe card, re-attach the screws and plate and you're all set. You can purchase the M.2 PCIe card from just about any computer hardware reseller.

Can this unit by itself function as a switcher for live recording? Does the touchscreen allow for easily switching between recorded inputs?
Asked by: Matthew
The HyperDeck Extreme is suitable for live production as a master recorder, clip player, for recording ISO cameras, and it works well when paired with Blackmagic Design switchers, but it is not set up to be a switcher on it's own.

Is this a viable option as a VTR for video ...

Is this a viable option as a VTR for video playback with the Constellation? The problem with the Hyperdeck minis is, they're so finicky with the types of files they will play back, we normally give up using them for playback due to frustration. Wondering if this deck has fixed that issue.
Asked by: Jarrod
It works very well with the Constellation as a playback device. Yes - some files are finicky - our solution, pipeline everything through Adobe Encoder with their "Adobe Stock" preset - this makes them a flavor of ProRes (even up to 4k/59.94p) that the player is really happy with. Oh, and avoid special characters and long filenames. I can't put my finger on it, because we can export the SAME thing from Premiere, Avid Media Composer, etc., but a finalo pass in Encoder standardizes the files just right for us.
