ZEISS Supreme Prime Overview

This B&H Kit bundles together three PL-mount ZEISS Supreme Prime lenses. Designed to cover up to full-frame-sized sensors, this 21, 65, and 135mm set can be used alone or added to round out your existing lens kit. All the lenses offer a fast T1.5 aperture and have focus scales marked in feet. Each lens in the Supreme Prime range delivers edge-to-edge sharpness, brightness, and cinematic imagery.

Each Supreme Prime lens features a 16-blade iris, which provides rounded, out-of-focus highlights for a more natural-looking image and consistency when switching focal lengths. The lenses share a consistent form factor across the family, sharing the same front diameter, as well as gear position, minimizing differences to adjust for as you switch lenses during your shoot day.

ZEISS Supreme Prime 21mm T1.5 Lens (Feet, PL Mount)

Covering a 46.3mm image circle, the Zeiss Supreme Prime 21mm T1.5 Lens can be used with full-frame and Super 35mm sensors. The internal focus design of this compact lens ensures very minimal focus breathing. Additionally, during the production of the Supreme Prime series, Zeiss claimed plans to enable complete removal of the remaining small amount of breathing through its eXtended Data (XD) technology. eXtended Data transfers lens data to a camera, Master Lockit, or select other devices via a LEMO cable connection to allow for adjustment of distortion and shading. This can be done in real time or with various software, including Pomfort Silverstack. Distortion and shading can already be fully adjusted on the Supreme Prime 21mm with eXtended Data. The lens has an interchangeable PL mount and is marked in feet.

The fast T1.5 aperture of the Supreme Prime 21mm lens allows for low-light capture, while smooth transitioning between in-focus and out-of-focus areas results in pleasing focus falloff and greater depth in the image. The lens has a 16-blade iris and smooth 300° focus rotation. The minimum focus distance is 13.7". The 21mm is color-matched with the rest of the Supreme Prime lineup and shares many other consistent features, including standardized positioning of the focus and iris rings. Like a few of the other Supreme Primes, it has a front diameter of 95mm. The lens also comes with a removable support foot with a 3/8"-16 mounting thread.

Key Features
  • Covers a 46.3mm image circle; can be used with full-frame and Super 35mm sensors
  • Minimal focus breathing
  • LEMO port for eXtended Data (XD) technology
  • T1.5 aperture
  • Smooth transitioning between in-focus and out-of-focus areas
  • 16-blade iris
  • Minimum focus distance of 13.7"
  • 300° focus rotation
  • 95mm front diameter
  • Interchangeable PL mount
  • Color-matched with the Supreme Prime series
  • Removable support foot with a 3/8"-16 mounting thread
ZEISS Supreme Prime 65mm T1.5 (Feet, PL Mount)

The ZEISS Supreme Prime 65mm T1.5 lens features an interchangeable PL mount and is marked in feet. The lens covers Full Frame sensors with a 46.2mm image circle. The internal focus design provides minimal focus breathing and a non-rotating front. The focus ring rotates 300° from a close focus of 24" to infinity, providing plenty of room for precise focus pulls. The iris is made up of 16 blades arranged to create circular, out-of-focus highlights. Both the focus and iris rings incorporate industry standard 0.8 MOD, 32-pitch drive gears, and the lenses within the Supreme lineup share the same gear positions, making for rapid lens changes.

The lens is fast at T1.5, yet has only a 95mm front diameter. This allows you to use a wide variety of matte boxes from handheld to studio size. The lens also weighs only 3.59 pounds, while featuring an interchangeable mount system. The PL mount passes metadata and is compatible with both the Cooke /i and the ZEISS Xtended Data systems.

Covers 46.2mm image circle, which allows you to use the lens with full-frame and Super 35mm sensors
The lens has been designed to be small, as far as lenses that cover full-frame sensors go, to better match the diminishing size of cameras
Though the lens is designed to be exceedingly sharp, it features a smooth focus roll-off
The lens features a precision square helical thread that is smooth and durable
The focus barrel features 300° of rotation for precise focus pulls
The lens mounts are interchangeable in the field and communicate with Cooke /i, and ZEISS Xtended Data protocols
The removable lens support foot features an integrated 3/8"-16 female threaded mounting hole
The lens features a 16-blade iris that forms a circular aperture for round, out-of-focus highlights
The iris markings on the lens are not linear, providing you more room for precise incremental adjustments when the iris is open on the wide end, as well as making the overall size of the lens smaller
ZEISS Supreme Prime 135mm T1.5 Lens (Feet, PL Mount)

Covering a 46.3mm image circle, the Zeiss Supreme Prime 135mm T1.5 Lens can be used with full-frame and Super 35mm sensors. Distortion and shading can already be fully adjusted on the Supreme Prime 135mm with eXtended Data. The lens has an interchangeable PL mount and is marked in feet.

The fast T1.5 aperture of the Supreme Prime 135mm lens allows for low-light capture, while smooth transitioning between in-focus and out-of-focus areas results in pleasing focus falloff and greater depth in the image. The lens has an 18-blade iris and smooth 300° focus rotation. The minimum focus distance of this telephoto lens is 4'5". The 135mm is color-matched with the rest of the Supreme Prime lineup and shares many other consistent features, including standardized positioning of the focus and iris rings. Like a few of the other Supreme Primes, it has a front diameter of 114mm. The lens also comes with a removable support foot with a 3/8"-16 mounting thread.

The ZEISS Supreme Prime lenses are compatible with both of these cameras and cover the sensor size and image formats. These are spherical lenses and not anamorphics.

how do we use the eXtended Data protocol if the Ambient Masterlockit Plus box is no longer made?
Asked by: Bernard
There are two other solutions, the first is using the Transvideo Starlite HD-m 5" OLED SDI Monitor-Recorder with Metadata Agregator (BH #TR917TS0142), in which this on-camera monitor will record the eXtended data from the lens onto an SD card, which can later be uploaded to use with compatible software. Second option is to record using a RED DSMC2 as a supporting camera that has firmware of at least v7.1, embedding itself onto the video file.
