Dramatically soften the light from your strobe or light source with this 18 x 43" Asymmetrical Stripbank Softbox from Nanlite. Compatible with lights utilizing a Bowens-mount speed ring, this modifier features a strip shape that is thinner than standard softboxes. This creates a narrow light output with limited spill that is well-suited for accent, hair, and rim lighting, as well as rendering long, elegant highlights on glassware and reflective objects. The Stripbox has a removable front panel and a silver interior for maximum output.

Nanlite Asymmetrical Stripbank Reviews
Simple but effective
I bought this after a number of female models had complained about not being able to see the shoes they spent so much money on due to light fall-off against dark backgrounds. This problem exists with either octa or symmetrical strips. The Nanlite allows you to keep the main light above the model (no horror light), yet still gets enough down to the ground to see shoes. You have to work reasonably close, and with a single model for best results. I was very pleased to get better lighting at ground level. I used it very effectively with a Godox AD300 and a low-profile speed ring. For some strange reason, it wasn't quite as useful parallel to the ground, ie landscape shot with a model laying on her side on a sofa, for example, but it works incredibly well for profile applications. As others mentioned, it does have to be old-school assembled, with no pop-up option, but it does make a very flat package for tossing in a suitcase. Will it solve all your problems ? no. is it worth under a $100 for a specialty tool to help with profile pictures ? definitely.
Useful modifier, especially in pairs
I would typically use this item with another strip bank, specifically the Photodiox Raja with one on either side on the subject resulting in excellent control of spill. The other soft box is much easier to assemble and disassemble because of this Spring loaded design, I wish that this item use the same of set up.
