XF 14mm f/2.8 R Lens with UV Filter Kit Overview

Complementing the lens itself, the FUJIFILM XF 14mm f/2.8 R Lens with UV Filter Kit from B&H bundles the wide-angle prime with a 58mm UV filter.

FUJIFILM XF 14mm f/2.8 R Lens

A bright wide-angle prime, the XF 14mm f/2.8 R from FUJIFILM is a 21mm-equivalent lens featuring a broad angle of view well-suited for landscape, interior, and astrophotography applications. Its optical design incorporates a pair of aspherical elements to control distortion and spherical aberrations, and three extra-low dispersion elements are also featured, which help to reduce color fringing for improved clarity. A Super EBC coating is used, too, to reduce flare and ghosting for improved color accuracy and contrast when working in bright and backlit situations.

Wide-angle prime lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 21mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture balances a compact design with lens speed for working in difficult lighting conditions and is also suitable for astrophotography applications.
Two aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Three extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Chiaro Pro 58mm 98-UVATS UV Filter

The Pro 58mm 98-UVATS UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A scratch-resistant coating minimizes scratching of the glass and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. Its hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it is thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. Side knurling helps assure that you’ll have a firm grip when attaching or removing your filter.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so that you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

98% Light Transmission
Protecting your lens doesn't mean you have to lose optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass and advanced coatings, Chiaro offers a 98% transmission rate, which is an excellent transmission rate for glass. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.
Resistance Coating
The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allow you to easily clean your filter. Water beads up and rolls off your filter, and oil and fingerprints can come off with a gentle wipe. Dust and debris won't adhere to the filter and can be removed with a puff of air.
Polished Optical Glass
Glass that's polished to perfection is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is highly-polished for flatness that ensures excellent optical clarity.
Multi-Coating
Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.
UV Protection
The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.
Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction
The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.
Slim Design
Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.
Top and Side Knurling
In addition to top knurling, Chiaro added side knurling to better grip the filter when you're attaching and removing it, or when you're stacking filters.
Secure Attachment
It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.
Front Threads
The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

XF 14mm f/2.8 R Lens with UV Filter Kit Reviews

It's a great Xmas lens

By Rick

So like many here I've read the reviews of this lens. And like others I've used it for landscape work and images taken in parks. But this past Xmas my wife and I travelled to my son's and family's place for Xmas. And to experience our first Christmas holiday with our new grandchild. I brought along my 50, 35 and 14 lenses. I don't know what I was thinking, the 50 inside just doesn't work. The 35 was still not giving me the views I was after. I pulled out the 14 and it worked like a charm. Why did I only give it four stars? The loose aperture ring which really isn't that big a deal, but to get 5 stars the lens has to be perfect. This lens is just nearly perfect. And this is my way to tell you guys and gals, don't forget to use this lens at Xmas and other holidays inside the home.

Great Rendering Personality...Visually Interesting

From the perspective of owning at least 12 Fuji XF lenses, I can say there are no bad ones in the lineup. I line them up in three categories...lenses that do a great job with no particular weakness(ie, kit lens, 35/2, etc,. Then there are lenses that are tack sharp...80 macro, 60 macro, 90/2, 50/2, etc. Then there are lenses that are visually interesting...35/1.4, 23/1.4, the 16/1.4, and the lens in consideration...the XF14/2.8. People will use the word 'rendering' as well to describe this. The best way I know how to define it is that the lens brings something to the table that is added to the photographer's skill to make the image more appealing. In a sense, a wide angle lens does that inherently anyway, but the 14 seems to go beyond that a bit and create that dimensional feel that raises my curiosity a bit when viewing. It's not that we want that all the time, as there is a place for the sharp, flat, and sterile image. But when the situation calls for it, the might XF14 will answer the call and be standing along side the first generation Fuji XF lenses to make life a bit more interesting. In terms of handling, I find nothing objectionable about this lens at all. The aperture ring is not loose, the manual focus slide is never in the way, and the 14 is in now way 'large' or heavy. The newest Fuji lenses will focus a tad faster...ie, the 16, 23/2, 35/2, and the 50/2. They are also weather resistant. They all have their strong points...and my perspective of shooting a lot of frames with the 14 over the past two weeks, the strength of the XF14 is its visual personality. I simply find it an interesting lens that produces interesting images. And since I own the 16-55 zoom lens, the 14 provides me with a prime that is not replicated in anything else I own.

Wide angle is the way to go

I do mostly landscapes and architecture. For me 35mm and even 28 sometimes are not quite enough when you're indoors. I love the sharpness and contrast of this Fuji 14mm (21mm in 35mm terms). Works great on my Fuji X-T30.

Wow what a lens!

This is one of my favorite lenses in the Fuji lineup.  For a decently fast wide it sports an excellent performance with not much to complain about. Good: Very sharp across the frame at most apertures and always sharp in the center.  Contrast - while not up to the level of excellence that some of Fujis other primes reach, is still great.  AF is quick enough.  Build quality is excellent and size is just right.  Little-to-no distortion is quite a feature.  It has no issues with flaring or ghosting. Not so good: Coma isnt a huge problem but does exist to a moderate extent at f/2.8 and mostly vanishes by f/4 - not the best for astro but with some clever processing and framing you can work around it.  At times color temp can render a bit too cool - some would call this rendering clinical but its fixable in lightroom (and even in-camera).  Sunstars dont have much definition. IMO this lens makes a great all-around wide angle, its always in my bag when I need a wide.

Great landscape lens.

I have had it two days, and I am in love with it. I debated between this and the 16mm f/1.4. I am sure the 16 is great, but I don't need f/1.4 for landscape work. F/2.8 is plenty fast. This lens is significantly wider (21mm vs. 24mm full frame equivalent). The clarity and color rendition of this lens are truly outstanding. Better than any of my Canon wide angles - and cheaper. Got it while on sale at $100 off.

To shoot with it is to love it!

I ordered the lens and suffered immediate buyer's remorse -- because of the cost. I called for a return authorization even before it was received. The lens arrived. I never sent it back. It's wonderful -- takes very sharp photos from edge to edge using my X-T1, X-T2, or X-T10 bodies. I love ultra wide -- I'm a landscape and cityscape photographer. Easily worth the cost as an ultra wide prime.

What else to say other than it is made by Fuji. Excellent feel, build quality, and results.

Not good for night photography

Terrible light stars rendering in long exposure shots of streets and bridges. A disaster for astro, especialy compared to Samyang 12mm f/2 (which I already regret selling to get this lens). OK for good light landscspes and cityscapes. Not wide enough for architecture. Definitelly not worth the $900 nominal price. I would've returned it if I hadn't paid 30% in import duties. Unless I've got a bad copy (which would be an even bigger issues by itself) I don't recommend this lens.

question

which lens would you recommend fungi 14mm or XF 10-24mm?
Asked by: Frederick S.
I had this same question when shopping for the system for myself. I went with the 14 because it is SO much smaller and lighter weight. I love it and find it a very versatile and usable focal length. The wider aperture is also a big help.
