Available for download, Spexx Spectral Effects Plug-In by Re-Compose is a modular plug-in that provides up to seven creative effects, all of them manipulating your source audio on a spectral basis in real-time. The results are decidedly fresh: create sputtering reverbs, swelling gates, glitchy repeats, esoteric filter sweeps, pitch-bombs, and a whole lot more. As such, this is a versatile tool suitable for sound designers, producers, composers, and anyone else who'd wish to engage with the experimental in their audio endeavors.
The plug-in is composed of seven effects: Damping, Decay, Feaze, Focus, Mirror, Pitch, and Slope. With Focus, Feaze, Decay, and Damping, you can create idiosyncratic reverbs. Mirror, Pitch, and Slope are spectral processes that take your sound in strange and somewhat unpredictable directions.
You can chain the effects in a modular fashion to create all sorts of strange sounds. Spexx itself operates in two distinct processing stages. First, a freeze stage captures incoming sound and affects it over time, continuously, like the tail of a reverb. The output stage then allows you to apply spectral processing for another layer of effects.
Because the plug-in makes use of multicore support, you can use it live as well as in the studio, making Spexx a performative tool as well as a production effect. Parameters can be fully automated or mapped to MIDI controllers.
Spexx is compatible with Mac and Windows computers. It can operate in VST, AU, and AAX formats.
