Avantone Pro CLA100 Overview

The Avantone CLA100 is a Class-AB power amplifier capable of driving 100W into passive monitors. Use this 1 RU amp with your pair of passive, stereo Avantone CLA10 (or comparable) monitors. Alternatively, you can use this amplifier in bridged mode if you need to drive multiple speakers in a monaural array. The CLA100 features XLR inputs with a per-channel link output and 5-way binding posts for outputs.

The amplifier offers 100 W RMS into 8 Ohms in stereo, or 245W into 8 Ohms in bridged mode. It utilizes a toroidal transformer and high-quality filter caps from Japan, all driven by a bevy of MOSFET transistors to ensure a detailed high end. Since it uses a thermal design that allows for convection cooling, the amp operates quietly enough to be used in tracking rooms. Its frequency response is 20 Hz to 30 kHz with 0.25 dB of deviation at any point on the frequency spectrum, making for an exceedingly flat response.

Good bang for the buck

The good: plenty of power for my NS 10s. The top end opened up nicely. No fan noise to battle, Feels Solid The bad: The two channels are not matched. I measured each speaker with an spl meter, one channel has to be 1 click louder to match. Sound wise, the mid range frequencies, around 1k to 3k, has a boost that is noticeable, the open top end helps you get over it, but my Yamaha NS-10M monitors feel a little pokey. That’s not something they need help with.
