This modular system is based on three sturdy suction cups, articulated legs, and a camera hub with a 3/8"-16 thread. It includes a camera hub with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera screws, ball head connectors, and both 3 and 6" leg sections for maximum positioning flexibility. I picked this up for an upcoming shoot, and have tested it on the hood of my car, and the driver's side door. My first test was with a rigged up S1H (Tilta cage, Mirage matte box, and smalled V-mount battery I have). I arranged the Camtree G-51 carefully to give it the best support I could. Unfortunately it, collapsed as soon as the car started moving. Next I went to a stripped down GH5 with 12-35mm Lumix lens, and had better results on the hood of the car. There was some vibration, so I tried different stabilization options (lens only, IBIS only, and both). A two shot of passengers in a wide shot gave me decent results with both lens and IBIS enabled. Zoomed in at 35mm gave me waaaay too much vibration, so I will have to keep refining this set up. The big challenge was mounting to the driver's door for a profile shot. My car (VW Tiguan) doesn't have flat surfaces at near the door window, so the suction cups were mounted fairly low. This meant there was no side to side support for the camera. Next, I mounted one of the suction cups to the windshield, which helped, but I still had too much vibration. I was able to reduce vibration a bit more by adding a safety cable from the camera mount to the roof rack rails. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep this out of the window reflections. I will likely buy another suction cup mount and attach it to the G-51 with a long friction arm for more points of contact. BTW, the suction cups were my immediate concern, but on smooth, flat surfaces, they grip very well and give me no concern about failing. Mechanically, the arms pivot on ball joints, and ALL of them have some degree of slop. This adds to the vibration issues. I was able to tighten things up a bit with plumbers tape around the pivot points, but this will be an on-going maintenance issue for sure. I have read reviews of the plastic connections on the suction cups breaking, and also the cast metal joints on the pivot gizmos breaking. It's tempting to want to tighten these areas, but care should be taken to avoid breakage. Overall, I think this car mount is limited to no more than 10 lbs of weight, at best. More weight = more vibration. Mounted to the hood was generally OK, and I don't feel the camera is at risk. The side door results were unsatisfactory, but that is largely due to the design of my car's doors. A car with flat side door surfaces may do better than my car for profile shots through the side doors.

Don't mix up the thumb screws!!!!!

Did a dry run setting up my new car mount (will be using it with an Insta360 Pro 2 for creating Google Street View content) and discovered there are TWO different thumb screw thread sizes provided that are almost the same: -20 to secure the spuds to the suction cups and M6-1.0 for all the ball heads. Neither have any distinctive markings and have identical handles. This is an avoidable industrial design mistake that is cheap to fix by either labeling the screws or Camtree just using -20 for everything... Not sure what the C hooks are good for (and the user's manual is no help) as there are no points on my car where they can hook, so highly recommend getting a set of door hook cargo tie downs, or trunk/hood tie downs. Positives: spare thumb screws are nice, the camera mounting hub is nicely machined, the lock-nuts on the ball joints are metal, and the case works (but wish you didn't need to tear down everything so much). As to using it with a 360 panoramic camera, the forged eye bolts provided are too bright and shiny, so will be replacing them with matte black eye bolts found at my local big-box hardware store.

Asked by: Edvard
No, a fluid head would only be required for the purpose of operation, but not if the camera is mounted on this and left alone.

The fluid head pictured in the image is not included with the Camtree G-51 Gripper Campod Suction Cup Car Mount, but you will receive a Camera Mount Hub for attaching either 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 items.

Can you mount a DJI Ronin S gimbal to it?
Asked by: Alex
Yes, you can mount a DJI Ronin S gimbal to this. Years working on pro camera crews with superb grips taught me that when I hung a $500,000 Panaflex off a car to be driven by an unpredictable actor on Sunset Boulevard, at night, in the rain, you also want safety ropes or straps just in case the actual mount fails.

Yes, the G-51 can support the DJI RS 2 and the Blackmagic 6K Pro. We strongly recommend also using the DJI Ronin Expansion Base Kit BH #DJREBK.
