Canon 80D Overview

  • 1Description

Providing everything needed to begin shooting, this Canon EOS 80D DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Accessory Kit from B&H includes a compact, lightweight DSLR camera with a standard zoom lens. They are bundled along with a memory card and a protective camera bag.

  • Canon EOS 80D DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Characterized by versatile imaging specs, the Canon EOS 80D further clarifies itself using a pair of robust focusing systems and an intuitive design. Featuring a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor, this sleek DSLR is capable of capturing high-resolution images at up to 7 fps and Full HD 1080p60 video, both with reduced noise and high sensitivity up to an expanded ISO 25600 for working in difficult lighting conditions. When working with the optical viewfinder, an apt 45-point all cross-type AF system affords fast performance in a range of lighting conditions for tracking moving subjects and working in low light, while the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system benefits live view shooting and movie recording by providing a smooth, natural focusing quality akin to the way a camcorder acquires focus. Touch-to-focus is availed by the large 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD, which also sports a swiveling vari-angle design for working from high and low angles with ease. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows you to pair mobile devices with the camera to wirelessly transfer files for sharing your photos and movies online. More than just a well-connected DSLR, the 80D is equally matched in imaging versatility due to its inclusion of multimedia feature-sets for stills shooting and movie recording.

Included with the camera body is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens; a versatile everyday lens that encompasses a 28.8-88mm equivalent focal length range. The STM stepping motor helps to achieve near-silent focusing when used during video recording and the Optical Image Stabilizer system helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake.

24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 6 Image Processor
Featuring a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor, the 80D is capable of producing high-resolution imagery with notable clarity and minimal noise, as well as a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-16000 that can be further expanded to ISO 25600 to support working in low-light situations. The sensor and processor combination also avails fast performance throughout the camera system, including the ability to shoot continuously at up to 7 fps or record Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps in the MP4 format.
45-Point All Cross-Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems
Benefitting stills shooting with the optical viewfinder, a wide-area 45-point all cross-type phase-detection autofocus system provides quick and precise focusing in difficult lighting conditions down to -3 EV. For working with telephoto lenses fitted with extenders, 27 of the points are capable of focusing down to f/8 and the center dual cross-type offers increased precision at brighter aperture values. The cross-type design of the sensors affords greater accuracy in low-contrast and mixed lighting conditions, and the broad coverage of the 45 sensors is ideal for tracking and maintaining focus on moving subjects. Making use of the 45-points is a series of four AF area selection modes, including single-point AF; Zone AF, where you can select from one of nine AF zones; Large Zone AF, which offers a choice of three selectable zones; and 45-point AF auto selection, which allows the camera to select a single point automatically.

When recording video or shooting in live view, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is employed that offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.
    Full HD 1080p Video Recording
In addition to stills recording, the 80D also supports Full HD 1080p video recording at up to 30 fps in the MOV format with ALL-I compression, or 60 fps in the MP4 format with IPB compression. Video recording is benefitted by the inclusion of Dual Pixel CMOS AF and the Movie Servo AF focusing functions, as well as the touchscreen design of the LCD monitor for intuitive control. Additionally, both headphone and microphone jacks are incorporated in the body design for advanced control over audio recording.

Unique to most video recording systems, the 80D also features an HDR Movie mode that can be used to achieve greater highlight and shadow detail when recording in high contrast scenarios. This mode captures two HD frames at different exposures, one normal and one underexposed, in short succession at up to 60 fps and then composites them during playback at 30 fps to create a movie with a longer-appearing dynamic range.
Body Design and Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC
    • 3.0" 1.04m-dot ClearView II touchscreen LCD features a vari-angle design to permit working from high and low angles and the touchscreen design facilitates intuitive control over menu navigation and touch-to-focus operation.
    • The pentaprism type Intelligent Viewfinder offers 100% frame coverage for high compositional accuracy when shooting at eye-level. Additionally, further aiding shooting with the viewfinder, AF points and mode, compositional grids, a horizontal electronic level, and other assistive features can be displayed during use.
    • Both photos and movies can be wirelessly shared to smartphones or tablets, using the Canon Camera Connect app, for instant online sharing or backed up to the Canon Connect Station CS100 via built-in Wi-Fi with NFC connectivity. Remote shooting from a linked mobile device is also available, allowing you to wirelessly configure exposure settings or release the shutter.
    • The high-performance shutter mechanism has been tested for up to 100,000 cycles.
    EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens
Included with the 80D is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which provides a 28.8-88mm equivalent focal length range that covers a variety of perspectives from wide-angle to portrait-length. Its design integrates an STM focusing mechanism that provides near-silent focusing abilities with smooth and precise control. Additionally, the Optical Image Stabilizer system helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps in order to benefit working in low-light conditions and with greater zoom magnifications. One aspherical lens element is also incorporated into the lens construction to help reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and an optimized lens coating has been applied, too, in order to lessen lens flare and ghosting for higher contrast, clearer imagery.
    Other Camera Features
    • A 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor benefits both autofocus and exposure metering precision and enables Color Tracking for more accurately detecting skin colors.
    • An anti-flicker function automatically compensates for flickering light sources to provide consistent exposure values and color during continuous shooting.
    • Time-Lapse Movie combines still photos taken at set intervals into a silent movie to depict motion that occurs over a long time scale.
    • HDR effects are available for stills shooting, and can be applied using Natural, Art Standard, Art Bold, Art Vivid, and Art Embossed settings.
    • Creative Filters can be applied to creatively refine the look of imagery, and include Grainy Black and White, Soft Focus, Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature Effect, Art Bold Effect, and Water Painting Effect. Five dedicated effects are also available for movie recording, an include Memory, Dream, Old Movies, Dramatic B&W, and Miniature Effect.

Canon 80D Reviews

EOS 80D DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Accessory Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 380.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera I love the camera, but even though I've used digital cameras for years (and film cameras for decades before that), there's a definite learning curve with this camera. The various functions and capabilities are a bit intimidating at first, but after a few weeks it's coming along. My photography includes a large percentage of wildlife, and the focusing speed and options are much better than my last camera. I'm looking forward to trying movies soon, but that's not my major purpose for this camera. I'd probably prefer GPS instead of Wi-Fi, but I'm sure I'll learn to value the latter. So far I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth The Money I upgraded from 70D and this camera is worth the upgrade. .Image quality is superior to the 70D .Colors are more vibrant and more accurate, similar to the older 5D .Sharpness and accuracy is superior to the 70D .Professional features on this camera are also significant. From minor things such as on screen level to more pro features and settings all around. .Last and surely not the lest, the low light capability of this camera is outstanding. In a room with very little light, zoomed 300mm, I am able to consistently focus on a can of soda and then read the fine prints with sharpness and amazing balance of noise!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works With Sigma 17-70 I just received my 80D from B&H, which is an upgrade for my 60D. After I placed my order, but before it arrived, I read that some people were having issues with third party lenses, especially with live view. I was a little anxious since my favorite lens is a Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 Contemporary. I contacted Sigma and they said it should work. I am happy to report that it does work flawlessly with live view and the view finder. I am impressed with the speed and accuracy of the touch focus in live view. I look forward to learning and using this camera, which shouldn't be a problem since I am already familiar with the menu.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon 80D - Very Pleased With Upgrade Retired several months ago and decided to take up photography as a hobby. First purchased the Canon Rebel T6s and thoroughly enjoyed the camera, but when the 80D was released I just had to have it. I primarily shoot wildlife, landscapes and planes/boats. The 45 point auto-focus and 7fps rate really make a difference in the IQ of my shots. The 80D is slightly heavier than the T6s which has actually helped when shooting handheld. I still have a lot to learn about the camera, but that's what makes photography fun. I definitely recommend the 80D for an amateur or enthusiast. Thanks B&H for the great customer service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I am just a casual photographer that keeps trying to improve my picture taking ability. I have used a 60D, 70D & now the 80D. The 80D give the best IQ so far with better dynamic range. I am particularly impressed with the quality of high ISO shots. The 70D was not really usable above ISO 3200 but this 80D actually takes decent pics at ISO 6400. As others have mentioned, the menu system is easy to use with the touchscreen. I use Tamron & Sigma lenses & have not had a problem so far, auto focus works fine. The camera is used for still shots only, no video. I have not had it that long but, so far, I am highly satisfied

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this camera I've had this camera for about a year now and I'm very pleased with it. I upgraded from a 70D and this one is very easy to adapt to. I am an amateur photographer but I use it very frequently. I do still photography only. It has all the settings and controls that I need and produces very good images. The things I like best: Fully articulating touch screen (I don't understand why Canon doesn't offer this on more of their cameras - I have used this A LOT for awkward angle shots and when tripod mounted) Increased dynamic range over 70D Increased resolution over 70D Easy operation and layout of controls For my money, this is the best crop sensor camera available right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera for the Money I have two full frame Canon cameras already so you may think it odd that I bought this cropped sensor camera, but I have good reasons. The 80D is my go to for capturing wildlife images, particularly birds because of its ability to focus quickly as well as its high burst rate. The 80D's 45 point focus points, and super quick Digic 6 processor make taking startling images easy - so it was a no brainer for me to add this camera to my wildlife arsenal. The 24MP resolution or my 80D images rivals the 20MP images I produce with my much costlier 6D. It's nimble, feels good in the hand, and has features like the thumb dial on the back that you usually only find on the pro style models. Great camera for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 80d vs 7d Mark ii for video Been using the 7d mark ii for the last 2 years, but thought I'd try the 80d. The center focus square is hard to move on the 7d mark ii as compared to the 80d. The 80d has a upgraded ipb mode but doesn't have the all-i mode like the 7d if that is import to you. It isn't to me, the quality is just fine. Its quick. You cannnot shot stills in video mode like you can on the 7d, you have to switch it over to photography mode to shoot stills. All in all, happy with the 80d. I do wish they would allow you to change the file names like you can with the 7d, however I'll just deal with that. Its a good quick camera.

question

this 80d suitable for wedding photography ? what if i comparing this to nikon d7200 which one is best for wedding photography ?

If full frame camera bodies are not an option, I would go more towards the D7200 for wedding photography. However, I would strongly suggest looking at full frame body options for wedding photography. question

I have a Canon T5i w/ the 18-135mm lens that I bought last year, is the 18-135mm lens that I bought with the T5i compatible with the body of the Canon 80D?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it is as the Canon 80D supports EF-S mount lenses like the 18-135mm.

What camera grip fits the canon 80 D

What camera grip fits the canon 80 D

Canon BG-E14 battery grip is the best option. If you go off brand, be prepared for possible connection issues between camera and grip, especially when shooting vertical.
