It features a removable key for indexing on your Mitchell plate and to help prevent the adapter from spinning once your fluid head is mounted. An included washer works as a spacer and keeps your fluid head's tie-down knuckle from slipping through the adapter's inner hole.
The locating key is removable, allowing you to use it on a Mitchell plate that has a deformed keyway slot.
The tie-down knuckle for some fluid heads may have a smaller diameter than the inner hole in Mitchell plates, and the threaded tie-down shaft may be too long, preventing you from properly tightening the head on your Mitchel mounting plate. The included washer spans the inner hole in your Mitchell plate, providing a contact surface to tighten the head against. The washer also helps fill the height difference so you can tighten your head on the adapter.
