Cokin NUANCES Variable ND Filter (82mm, 5 to 10-Stop)
Key Features
  • 0.3 to 2.4 Optical Density
  • 16-Layer Multicoating
  • Schott B270 Glass Construction
  • Slim 9.5mm Aluminum Alloy Filter Ring
The 82mm NUANCES Variable ND Filter from Cokin is designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops. Its density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

Cokin Nuances VND 5 to 10-Stops Overview

The 82mm NUANCES Variable ND Filter from Cokin is designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and each glass surface features 16 layers of Cokin's EVERCLEAR 5 anti-reflection coating. These coatings are resistant to oil, dust, dirt, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are also hydrophobic, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to apply differing amounts of density from scene to scene.
Darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops, allowing you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity.
16-layer Cokin EVERCLEAR 5 multi-coating prevents internal ghosting and reflections; is oil, dust, dirt, as well as scratch resistant; and provides an improved beading effect with water for more efficient cleaning.
Slim, 9.5mm thick aluminum alloy filter ring assembly helps to prevent vignetting while remaining lightweight.
Side lever allows the filter glass to be easily rotated.

Cokin Nuances VND 5 to 10-Stops Reviews

Great filter, BUT!!!….

This is very good filter, great quality, functions smoothly…. But - as I discovered, a variable filter is actually not the way to go. Problem is, how it achieves variable densities is thru polarization - which can result in really messed up images. Particularly at higher density, and with longer exposures. I was pretty happy with the images I captured with lower density, shorter exposure time. But, I did one at 10 stops, 70 seconds - wow - wild colors, over exposed areas, under exposed areas - terrible. Pretty much anything 30 seconds and over was bad, and anything at 10 stops was hit or miss. I’m keeping it to use, bearing this info in mind - but after just one outing with it, I came home and ordered a solid 10 stop.

Excellent quality, works great

I have many Cokin filters and all of them have held up great, this filter looks like it will be just as great.
