Genaray Endeavor Overview

With its familiar, user-friendly form factor, the Endeavor ML-33K Daylight LED Monolight from Genaray is a versatile and highly powerful light source that boasts an impressive 33,000 lux output at 3 feet that will bathe your subjects in bright daylight-balanced light. The COB LED emits its beam from a compact area for a traditional single-shadow light, and it provides soft, circular edges with the bonus of round, natural-looking catchlights and reflections. Great for video shoots, the Endeavor emits a flicker-free beam that eliminates unwanted strobing effects when shooting at high frame rates for slow-motion video or high-speed imaging. The Endeavor's 5600K color balance blends seamlessly with ambient light on location or with other daylight fixtures, and its extremely high CRI/TLCI ratings of 97.5 and 98.5 are your assurance of superior performance and accuracy in color reproduction. Genaray has also considered locations dominated by tungsten lights by including an amber conversion filter. The light also features 0 to 100% flicker-free dimming in 10-degree increments, opening the door to high-speed shooting for slow-motion applications, while maintaining its high CRI/TLCI ratings no matter the chosen power level.

One of the Endeavor's outstanding benefits is its power options. It features multi-voltage operation from 90-240 VAC worldwide use, and for shooting in locations where AC power is unavailable, separate purchase of Genaray's BA-VMOUNT-E adapter will allow you to run the light on two V-mount batteries. The light has a wide beam spread of 120 degrees for ample coverage, but since it employs the widely used Bowens front accessory mount, Genaray and manufacturers' modifiers can be used to shape and control the Endeavor's output. For further light-shaper compatibility, the light's 5/8" receiver has a channel for optional umbrellas. A well-known benefit of using LEDs is their very low generated heat. The Endeavor draws just 150W and employs a thermostatically controlled fan and built-in heat sync ports that regulate the internal temperature, allowing for close-up shooting without causing the subject discomfort, as well as extending the LED life to 50,000 hours.

In addition to all the features above, the Endeavor extends control options. The fixture has a built-in 16-channel, 5-group receiver, and while you can adjust power levels locally on the fixture, you can also make adjustments wirelessly at distances up to 100' with the separate purchase of Genaray's Lightseeker 2.4 GHz remote transmitter—a very valuable asset when lights are hung overhead or mounted in out-of-the-way places.

Bright, Dimmable, Daylight-Balanced Light
The Endeavor's COB LED outputs plenty of light—more than 33,000 lux at 3' and is dimmable from 0 to 100% in 10% increments. Its 5600K daylight-balanced output allows it to be integrated seamlessly into ambient light on location or with other daylight fixtures. For situations dominated by tungsten fixtures, Genaray includes an amber conversion filter.
Flicker-Free Color Accuracy
The light is flicker-free at any power level, allowing shooting at high frame rates. Its very high CRI/TLCI ratings of 97.5 and 98.5 are your assurance of superior exactness in color rendition.
Circular Chip-on-Board (COB) LED
Unlike rectangular panels, the Endeavor's LED provides soft, circular edges, and reflects round, natural-looking catchlights in your subject's eyes.
Battery and AC Power Options
The Endeavor is ready for worldwide use with its multi-voltage capacity to operate on 110-240 VAC, and with separate purchase of Genaray's BA-VMOUNT-E adapter, it can also run on two V-mount batteries when AC power is unavailable.
Optional Wireless Remote Control
The Endeavor has a built-in Lightseeker 2.4 GHz, 16-channel radio receiver. Separate purchase of the Lightseeker remote transmitter will allow you to make light intensity adjustments at distances up to 100' away.
Temperature Control for Cool Running LEDs
One of the benefits of using LEDs is their very low, almost negligible heat. The Endeavor draws just 150W and employs a thermostatically controlled fan and built-in heat sync ports that regulate the internal temperature, allowing for extended shoots without overheating as well as close lighting placement without causing the subject discomfort.

Genaray Endeavor Reviews

I like 'em

A rugged workhorse of a light. Bright, Easy to work with. Same form factor as my other monolights. The plastic CTO disc fits on the end of the reflector. There are a lot of LED lights out there to choose from, and these are the third (brightest and largest) ones I've purchased (got a pair while on sale). Happy with these! One pre-purchase concern I had based on my other two LED light experiences was whether the clamps on the lights would be strong enough to handle the assortment of softboxes I use. 100% no concerns with the fit and grip of these ML-33K's on top of tripods. They lock down confidently. Also, after use, there's virtually zero waiting period before you can pack them away--I like that! Although I did also purchase the Nanlite COB Cap with Bowens Mount - I haven't needed to use them yet but recommend the caps to have at the ready.

How is the light output compared to an ARRI 650 fresnel?

The Arri is a lensed fresnel so its a little bit of a uneven comparison, but they are about the same. The Arri will be brighter in its beam, the Genaray wider in its spread.

I try to get my head around the comparison of a traditional studio flash setup and a LED setup. My personal example: I shoot family portraits in a studio. Use a standard light setup with a Broncolor Pulso 3200 WS with 3 heads , 1 big 3 ft soft-box , 1 beauty-dish and 1 reflector with grid. In general ISO 200 - 400 and Apertures 2 - 8 with my Fujifilm X-H1. Off course the Broncolor handles that with room to spare. How would this setup work-out with the Genaray Endeavor and/or the Powerhouse ? Can I work with similar camera settings with an acceptable shutter-speed ? Say 1/30 sec ?
Asked by: Jacob R
For ISO 200-400 you will be down to 1/30 for f/8 or a touch slower depending on how far the lights are setup. And then you can get movement when using Genaray Endeavor ML-33K Daylight LED Monolight.
