Tilta Top Handle Overview

Carry and stabilize your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with this lightweight tactical gray Quick Release Top Handle from Tilta. The quick release handle's features include two shoe mounts, a 15mm rod port, multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, and a 3/8"-16 thread with locating pins.

The aluminum and stainless steel handle attaches to your camera cage using the included spring-loaded thumbscrew. The 15mm rod port features a rod locking screw to add a rod to the handle. There is one 3/8"-16 thread with locating pins on the front of the handle to mount a separately available Tilta cage rod mount.

Probably a good handle, but frustrating…

This particular quick release handle does not work with the Tilta cage for the RED Komodo 6K. It only latches in and bolts down with a 1/4 20” thread when it is put in backwards, obscuring the camera screen and carries awkward when held. However, I’m sure it works with other Tilta brands.

I wanted a top handle that used two bolts for more peace of mind, and this one is inexpensive and has been perfect.

Can this fit in a normal hot shoe mount on a camera?

Unfortunately, the Tilta Quick Release Top Handle also has a cage screw and spring to lock into the Tilta cage's cold shoe mount. Screwing this top handle onto a camera will damage the hot shoe connectors.

Would this work well as a right side handle mount as well? (On fx3/30 tilta cage)

Because the Tilta Quick Release Top Handle (Black) has a 1/4"-20 that can protrude from the bottom of cold shoe mount, you could mount it as a side handle using a the camera's or a cage's 1/4"-20 receiver, but it may not be the most secure since it won't have the added support of a cold shoe, anti-twist pin, or a second screw, so if you do use it as a side handle be careful to pay attention to if it starts to come lose or twist.

The Tilta Quick Release Top Handle (Black) could be used with the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 with either a compatible cage with cold shoe mount or a cold shoe adapter such as the SmallRig 1241 Cold Shoe, BH #SM1241.
