Designed with complementary features that will make it your constant companion, the Bushnell 10x42 Engage DX Binoculars are ideal for when you're out birding, hunting, hiking, camping, or enjoying sporting events—especially in wide-open spaces where the high magnification and wide field of view really shine.

To help deliver its performance, Bushnell employs anti-reflection multi-coatings on the lens elements with protective exterior coatings, and prisms are dielectric coated and phase corrected. These coatings work together to maximize light transmission through the light path, resulting in bright, sharp, and clear high-contrast views with accurate color fidelity and crisp resolution, even in challenging conditions such as at dawn and dusk or when viewing across vast wide open spaces. To further improve the observational experience, the Engage DX binoculars are designed with a long eye relief and comfortable exit pupils as well as a wide 65° apparent angle of view. This minimizes the distracting hand shake that is common with powerful optics and presents a spacious field of view.

Bushnell built the Engage DX binoculars to make it easy and comfortable to hold and allow them to withstand the harshest elements. Their magnesium alloy chassis is designed to provide an ergonomic and balanced feel in the hand that also provides the strength and stability required of workhorse binoculars like these. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to an IPX7 rating, so they are waterproof and resistant to internal fogging if the weather turns or they take an accidental spill in a stream or puddle. Protecting the optical components is a rubber armor outfitted with textured palm pads that provide a sure and secure grip. For those who experience fatigue when holding large optics for long periods, or to simply eliminated vibrations, the Engage binoculars can be tripod-mounted using an optional adapter for easy hands-free use.

Optical Performance

  • High 10x magnification enables detailed observations of distant subjects
  • Larger 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability for enhanced low-light performance such as at dawn and dusk or when peering into dense brush
  • Compact roof prism light path ensures the optical tubes remain slim for easier handling without affecting performance
  • BAK4 prism glass delivers a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • PC3 phase-correcting prism coatings eliminate internal interference to improve color and contrast
  • Dielectric prism coatings boost light throughput to 92% for minimal loss and diffraction
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission, contrast, and color fidelity
  • Proprietary EXO exterior lens coatings resist external fogging, scratches, and abrasions while allowing oil, dirt, and sap to be cleaned off without leaving smudges or residue
  • Wide 65° apparent angle of view presents an immersive and panoramic observational experience with reduced appearance of the distracting hand-shake that is common when holding high-power optics
  • Spacious 340-foot field of view at 1000 yards

Use and Handling

  • Closed bridge design provides a solid and stable platform for the internal focus mechanism
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather, even while wearing gloves
  • Locking right-eye dioptric correction allows user to compensate for optical prescription to produce sharper views without the risk of movement
  • Broad 53-72mm interpupillary distance adjustment range enables easy use by a wide variety of users from adolescents to adults
  • Twist-up click-stop eyecups for easy use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod-mountable with an optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Exceptional 18mm eye relief improves viewing comfort with reduced eyestrain, especially during long glassing sessions
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover most pupils as they open and dilate in low light to keep the whole scene in view without vignetting

Construction Details

  • Lightweight and durable magnesium alloy chassis
  • Ergonomic body design positions the hand over the binoculars' center of balance for additional comfort and reduced strain and fatigue
  • Protective rubber armor with raised palm pads provides a solid and secure slip-resistant grip
  • Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to an IPX7 rating: Waterproof and capable of temporary submersion in puddles or shallow streams
  • Tethered objective lens caps protect lens surfaces without the fear of losing them when not in use

Sharp and bright.

I was looking for decent binocs with fully multi-coated optics for no more than 2 bills. Compared specs with viper crossfire and nikon prostaff 7s but didn't get to try any. However, very happy I chose these. They are very bright and very sharp with smooth focus. I can not imagine higher priced optics being noticeably better. Other positives are that they have a wide field of view, good eye relief, nice hard rubber coating, and good lens & eyepiece covers that stay in place. If I had to nitpick, one negative is that they do exhibit some color fringing in certain situations. It is well corrected in the center, but noticeable towards the edges. It doesn't bother me - I come from a photo background so I am probably more likely to notice than others. I assume binocs costing 3x as much might not have any color fringing but it wouldn't be worth the cost to me. Last, one thing to note is that some of the details and specs are wrong on both B&H and Bushnell's websites. For example, this DX model does NOT have the locking dioptric adjustment. I was a little disappointed when I received them and noticed, but in practice it has not mattered. After months of use, it has never been bumped off my setting. Also, close focus distance is listed as 7.87' and in Bushnell's own manual it says 12' for the DX. In my tests I found it to be just under 10'. Still good and not of consequence to me since I only look at distant things.

Just got these binoculars and I must say they are fantastic. Typical Bushnell well made and rugged build quality. They present a very wide and bright field of view in normal to bright lighting. Haven't tried them yet in low light. If you're looking for a quality pair of binos for under $200 I'd say you'd have a difficult time finding anything better! Highly recommend. Also, the listing here in B&H doesn't mention it but these are packaged with a nice padded strap, a nylon case as well as a soft lined pouch as well. Can't go wrong; buy 'em.
