Celestron 93573 Overview

Enjoy better views through your telescope and change eyepieces and accessories faster and more easily with the Celestron 90° Dielectric Star Diagonal. The diagonal has a 2" holder for today's larger accessories and imaging gear, and it comes with a 1.25" reducer adapter to make it compatible with the most popular size of gear from eyepieces to Barlows, filters, and a near-infinite array of accessories.

Designed with diffraction-limiting optics, its BK7 mirror is treated with 58 layers of dielectric coatings that produce a reflective surface greater than 99% so more incoming light makes it to your eye—this is especially important when viewing dim deep-sky objects where every photon of light is important.

For the eyepiece holder side of the diagonal, Celestron eschews convention and replaces the ubiquitous three thumbscrews to tighten the interior compression ring with a twist-lock. Utilizing a twist-lock not only makes swapping your eyepieces and accessories faster and easier, it properly centers the eyepiece and maintains proper optical alignment. This version of the Dielectric Star Diagonal comes with two adapters for the telescope side: A 2" nosepiece that fits into standard drawtubes and a threaded ring that fits standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (SCT) visual backs. Using the SCT adapter provides a solid and secure connection while limiting additional optical distance, which is important for imagers performing eyepiece projection techniques. The aluminum housing has a black anodized finish, and the interior is painted flat black with blackened threads to reduce reflections.

If the 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope model features a 2" visual back, the 2" 90-degree Dielectric Star Diagonal with Twist-Lock will be compatible.

Hi. For a Celestron Nextstar 8SE telescope, will upgrading to this star diagonal make a significant improvement to viewing quality and/or photography quality?
Asked by: Anonymous
Upgrading to 2" eyepieces is a personal choice. Many find it easier to observe through. The 2" Twist-Lock Diagonal produce a reflective surface greater than 99% so nearly all of the incoming light will reach your eye. When viewing dim, deep-sky objects, capturing every photon of light is highly important.

2" filters will be able to thread into the 2" nosepiece adapter so that 1.25" eyepieces can be used.

I bought two Celestron 102GT from B&H five years ago that have 45 degree diagonals. Would this improve their view and also, would they improve 1.25" eyepieces or does this require 2 inch eyepieces?
Asked by: Eric
The NexStar 102GT accepts a 1.25" diagonal, so 1.25" eyepieces of various focal lengths and apparent field of views are recommended to enhance the views.

Will this diagonal fit onto a dobsonian telescope?
Asked by: Owen
The Celestron 90° Dielectric Star Diagonal with Twist-Lock (2"), B&H # CEDSDTL2, is not recommended for use with Dobsonian telescopes. It places the eyepiece parallel with the telescope tube, making it nearly impossible to view through the eyepiece. It will also space the eyepiece too far from the focuser for the telescope to focus accurately. For Dobsonian telescopes, their eyepieces must be inserted directly into the focuser.
