Benro 3XS Overview

Designed for iOS and Android smartphones, the 3XS 3-Axis Smartphone Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer from Benro is a 3-axis gimbal with pan, tilt, and zoom rotation for all axes. It features customizable buttons that can be set for Roll Following, Face Tracking, and One-Press Autorotation, which allows for a 90° rotation between horizontal and vertical shooting modes. Also available is wired charging via the included USB Type-C and Lightning cables, or wireless charging using the wireless charging pad built directly into the 3XS. When not in use, the 3XS folds down to about the size of a phone for easy travel and storage. Its motors also lock so it remains in place while in your bag.

Shooting is aided using Universal Follow mode, which is best for dynamic camera moves while following a subject, or Locked Down mode, which is best for dynamic panning movements around corners. Thanks to a 3.5mm mic jack, you'll be able to connect an external mic for recording audio directly to your smartphone. Power is provided by a 2000mAh battery, which lasts for up to 24 hours before recharging is required.

General Features
Take It Almost Anywhere with a Foldable Design and Locking Motors
The folding design of the 3XS allows you to take your gimbal with you virtually anywhere you go. Folding down to about the size of a phone, the gimbal can easily fit in most bags and jacket pockets. The 3XS allows for the gimbal to be folded up and carried with minimal storage space needed. The motors also easily lock so the gimbal remains in place while in your bag.
One-Press Autorotation
With a single press of one of the 3XS's customizable buttons, you can rotate your phone's filming orientation from either horizontal to vertical or vice-versa. No rebalancing is necessary.
Wireless and Wired Charging Options
If your phone is getting low on power, you can plug your smartphone into the gimbal clamp with included USB Type-C or Lightning cables. Or better yet, if your phone supports it, you can use the wireless charging pad built into the gimbal clamp to wirelessly charge your smartphone while shooting.
Universal Follow Shooting Mode
Universal Follow provides smooth camera movements towards the direction you're aiming at. Use this mode when circling a subject or when making several dynamic camera movements while following a subject.
Locked Down Shooting Mode
Locked Down provides smooth movement based on where you move the camera horizontally. Use this mode for dynamic panning movements around corners.
Built-In Mic Jack
The 3XS offers the ability to use an external microphone without interfering with the operation of the gimbal. With the included audio cable and built-in 3.5mm (TRRS) port, you can mount a compatible microphone onto the handle of the gimbal for high-quality audio recording directly to your smartphone.
24-Hour Battery Life
The 3XS features a 2000mAh capacity battery which provides up to 24 hours of use.
3-Axis Gimbal
The 3-axis gimbal will stabilize pan, tilt, and zoom functions for all the axes.
User-Customizable Buttons
With multiple customizable buttons, you can easily select and control your desired functions with each button by using the companion smartphone app. By pressing down on one of the customizable buttons, you can switch between features such as Roll Following, Face Tracking, automatic rotation of your phone's orientation from 180 to 90° and back, and more.
Intelligent Features via the Companion App
The companion smartphone app allows you to calibrate your 3XS, adjust parameters, update the firmware, create a panorama, or create a time-lapse with dynamic motion. The 3XS also allows for automatic face and object tracking. This enables the user to take part in the action while leaving the filming up to the gimbal.
1/4"-20 Universal Adapter
The underside of the Benro 3XS handle has a 1/4"-20 threaded hole for mounting the stabilizer to a tripod or using desired mounted accessories. This allows you to use the 3XS hands-free during Panorama or Motion time-lapse modes, as well as during Object or Face Tracking modes.
Travel-Friendly
Keep your production value high while traveling light, as the collapsible handle makes it good for traveling.
Drawstring Protective Pouch
The included carrying pouch allows you to retain your axis positions, saving you setup time at your next location.

Benro 3XS Reviews

Worthless garbage

This thing is an unintuitive. I would not recommend it to anyone. Face tracking, nope. Buttons that actually do something, think again. Don't get me wrong, the buttons click, but nothing happens. Front button takes a picture, nah; why would it do that. The pan button decided to start rotating the camera, so no more panning. Well that was until I fought the motor, forced it where I wanted it, then the pan button panned again. Stay away from this. Find something better.

Better Than Expected

When I bought this I had only moderate expectations. The reviews here are good but the reviews on that other website "where everybody buys stuff" were not so good. Stories about instability and lack of compatibility abound. So I was pleasantly surprised when I started to use this. It paired immediately with my Samsung galaxy note 20. The app installed without incident via a QR code. As soon as the gimbal paired attached it offered to update its own firmware, which completed without any issues. I have had absolutely no problems with the gimbal crashing, or the app crashing, or the video recorder stopping. It has all being stable as can be. The only complaint is a minor one and it has to do with charging the battery. The lower port is used for charging. Even though it is a USB-C port it is not USB-C PD capable. This means you need to use a charger with a USB-A port, and a USB A to USB-C charge cable. if you try to use a USB-C PD charger, the device will not charge. While this is only a minor issue it should be mentioned in the documentation and it is not. I was able to determine that the device will charge at 10W. The gimbal works extremely well. It is very stable, and the video quality is much better than what I was getting out of the phone previously. It has no problem handling my Samsung note 20 ultra which is a very large and heavy phone. The big upside with this model compared with its obvious competitors (ie, DJI OM4) is that it has 3.5mm ports for an external microphone. The model I bought from B&H included the Saramonic smartmic. My phone does not have a microphone jack so I purchased an analog to USB-C adapter for $13. The result is much better audio than I was able to capture with the smart phone alone. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Nice Gimbal

This is a good gimbal. Powerful enough to hold a phone easily. I like the external mic which makes this somewhat more useful. Would be nicer if it had a bit more rotation in the pitch (up and down) direction. Size is fine and it folds up. Using this makes my phone much more useful as a video cam.

Live-streaming w/ tech!

I got this product to enhance our live-streaming programs primarily because it uses an external microphone to enhance the audio but additional cable & adapter were needed aside from the basic cables ... once I received these, the next program was much better audio-wise ... the only gripe is that the device does not allow thru-the-device charging ... but then again, I may be missing something ... will use it more to be proficient at it ... thanks!

Stabilization solution with plenty of power for Blink 500

I bought this device because my old gimbal wouldn't handle the Blink 500 2.4 GHz audio solution I ordered from B&H.  The Benro 3XS has plenty of power to handle the 11 Pro Max iPhone plus attachments. It is easy to use and has several different modes to adapt to your style and type of photography. If you've done much iPhone videography you know your battery goes down fast. The Benro 3XS also serves as a wireless (or wired) charger. Overall this is an excellent value and performs well.

Phone Clamp Barely Fits iPhone 13 Pro Without Case Attached

By Hal

I researched a gimbal for my new iPhone 13 Pro, watched several videos and like the features of the Benro 3XS. After taking the case off of my phone, the clamp (still) barely fit. I don't think the clamp would have prevented the phone from flying off during operation, so right there it was a non-starter for me. The clamp interfered with the on/off button and moving the phone to balance it, per the gimbal instructions, put the phone to sleep twice. Again a non-starter. I am disappointed because the gimbal has some very nice features over other manufacturers, the grip has a microphone pass-thru and charges the phone while in use. I don't think the Benro 3XS is truly compatible with the larger (wider) iPhone Pro models, and I wasn't thrilled with the idea my $$$$ phone coming off the gimbal without screen/lens protection. I think it would probably be fine with smaller/narrower phones.

Nice, and exactly what I expected!

I was searching for a travel gimbal, and wanted something that was well-made and well-supported. This Benro fit the bill - multiple year warranty, plus wireless phone charging (only one or two others had this), and unique audio connections, plus outstanding battery life. The Benro app is stable and easy to use on my Android and iPhone. Charging and use times are as good as advertised, which was nice to see. Now to make some videos!

Can you use the Rode Go mics w/ this? And if so, where would you place the wireless receiver?
Asked by: Kelly
This product has a Mic Input that is integrated in to the handle that will then go to the camera. To connect the receiver to the system the SmallRig Wooden Side Handle for DJI Ronin-S/SC & Zhiyun Crane 2/V2 Gimbals would be a great choice. This will connect to the 1/4"-20 thread under the gimbal and give you a shoe mount connect for the Wireless Receiver. https://bhpho.to/380es2d

What is the difference between 3XS and 3XS Lite? Cables only?
Asked by: William
The cables are one of the big differences, they are iPhone and Android Charging cables. The 3XS has the ability to charge smart phones, the 3XS Lite does not. Also, the 3XS has a 360 degree pan, the 3XS lite is 320 degrees.
