This printer would not install on my new computer

The software would not successfully install on my computer. I tried twice, both with similar progress and the same result. I suspect this is due to obsolete driver software (graphics looked to be old and there was a CD included with the box, indicating that this printer's driver software was developed when most laptops came with a CD drive). I could not begin using it to see if the machine printed well. This is the first time I used an Epson product, but it'll be awhile before I try another Epson.

The Xp-970 has small ink cartridges. I wish it had the larger refillable ink.

Solid SOHO inkjet choice

Performs as expected and has been recognized and usable easily on several platforms and multiple machines. The print quality is very good and overall I am finding it to be a much better unit than an equivalent HP unit it replaced. I do wish I could run it dual homed on wired and wireless at the same time, but this was a minor inconvenience. Compared to the unit it replaced, its networking is vastly superior.

deception

I purchased this printer because I always used Epson printer for my entire Photography career starting from Stylus R800.. The printer started working very well and after 18 months it keeps showing "Paper Loading cassette" for both paper trails. I did everything Epson offers as Options for this matter and nothing works. Twice I've contacted Support that afterward asked me to call before 5pm while having the printer next to me. Thing I don't really have time to do because I'm always home after 5pm. For me the printer become my first deception with Epson brand.

simple set up

my last printer was a pain to set up. This Epson was simple. I bought extra ink because I thought the set process would burn thru all the set up ink, it didn't, I have printed a bunch of non photo pages. I can't comment on photo prints or scanning yet as I have not done that yet, but keep getting reminders to do a review. If there are issues I will report back. I switched to epson because my Canon died and they didn't stand behind it.

In September of 2022 I buy an HP that was suppose to be a good photo printer ...It was not! So, I decided to try the Epson Expression Photo XP-970. It does a great job at printing. I am happy with the quality of the photos.

Money Well Spent

I purchased the Epson Expression XP950 in March, 2015. It reached the end of it's useful life December 17, 2022. It looks like the XP970 is the updated version of my printer, so I'm reviewing here. I used this printer often and printed hundreds of beautiful borderless photos with it. I was disappointed when it suddenly quit last Saturday night because it has been so faithful all these years. I didn't use the 11x17 print size as much as I thought I would, so I'm purchasing the XP-8700 this time. I only hope it serves me as well as the 950. I've had several Epson printers over the years and for quality photos, you can't beat Epson.

What is the quality of black and white prints on high quality photo paper? Do I need a cartridge other than black?
Asked by: Annegret
You can get a great b/w image, but being that there is no light black ink the lighter black may have a light tinge of green in it. If your printing for yourself it might be OK & the ink is only dye based. So if you're selling the prints as professional & archival I recommend the Epson p700 that has 2 additional shades of grey & pigment archival ink. follow the link: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1558223-REG/epson_c11ch38201_surecolor_p700_standard_edition.html

How does the scanning quality rate? Can I scan quickly? How many photos can I scan in one hours time? And can i save the scans directly to my external hard drive to avoid thing up space on my macbook?
Asked by: Khristina
Scanner is great even for photos. You can scan up to 4800 dpi. Speed is all pending on the dpi you scan, the higher the dpi the slower your scan. It also depends on your computer processor, ram, & hard-drive speeds. By setting up the scanning on your computer you can select to save the scans even on a external drive.

The 80lb may work but only do this on occasion otherwise will cause damage. The 140lb watercolor paper will not work at all and will damage the printer.
