An adjustable third leg allows proper leveling on uneven surfaces, and the cam lock secures the stand at the adjusted height. The stands collapse for convenient transport in the supplied carry bag.

Very heavy, not easy to open

I bought these stands last year and promptly returned them. They are extremely heavy, adding tremendously to the load in or out effort. I actually researched the weight and found the weight listed incorrectly on several sites. The legs themselves were difficult to release and form the tripod. These looked great, and I have great respect for JBL but I would avoid these.
