QNAP 2.5" to 3.5" SATA Drive Adapter
Key Features
  • Fit Two 2.5" Drives in One 3.5" Bay
  • Supports SATA III and RAID
  • No Software or Drivers Needed
  • Windows, Linux, or QNAP NAS Compatible
Install two 2.5" SATA HDDs or SSDs within a single 3.5" drive bay using the 2.5" to 3.5" SATA Drive Adapter from QNAP. Compatible with the SATA III 6 Gb/s standard, this adapter supports 2.5" drives that are 7mm and 9.5mm in height. It does not require any software or drivers and may be used with Windows 7 and later, Windows Server 2012 R2 and later, Linux, and QNAP NAS devices running QTS 4.4.1 and later. Also supported is RAID 0, which stripes both drives together for performance gains, but provides no data redundancy, and RAID 1, which uses one drive to create a 1:1 mirror of the other. If you don't need RAID, this adapter also supports JBOD and individual configurations.

QNAP QDA-A2AR Overview

This adapter is not compatible with QNAP's TR-002/TR-004.

General Features
Supports Various RAID Levels
This adapter supports a variety of RAID configurations. Depending on your requirements, you can use the bundled metal pin as a disk mode switch tool to select your RAID mode: Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, or RAID 1. Windows users can use the QNAP External RAID Manager utility to view the RAID group status and disk health information.

Individual Mode
A system that supports SATA port multipliers can connect two SATA drives to a single SATA port, allowing you to independently access each disk as separate storage space.

RAID 0
Data is split amongst the drives. RAID 0 provides the fastest performance but does not protect data from drive failure.

RAID 1
Half of the total storage capacity is used to store data, and the other half keeps a copy of this data. This provides high data protection at the cost of only being able to use half the installed storage space.

JBOD
All the drives are recognized as a single drive. This allows maximum storage utilization but provides no data protection.
Install In a PC/Workstation for Higher Performance or Data Protection
When using two 2.5" drives instead of a single 3.5" drive in a Windows or Linux system, you can create a RAID 0 for enhanced performance, or RAID 1 to add data redundancy for greater data protection. To deal with tasks that require intensive, fast data transmission, you can install high-speed SATA SSDs to achieve maximized performance and lower latency, which is good for on-the-fly video editing and server-grade applications.
External RAID Manager for Windows
The QNAP External RAID Manager utility allows Windows users to view the drive status and RAID information. Firmware updates can also be managed with the External RAID Manager utility.
Install in a QNAP NAS for Efficient Storage or SSD Caching
This adapter supports hardware RAID that will not consume CPU resources to help sustain NAS performance. You can install one or more of these in a NAS to maximize the storage utilization of 3.5" drive bays. This adapter can accommodate two SSDs to create an SSD volume for performance-demanding workflows or work in an efficient tiered-storage environment with Qtier. It can also boost IOPS performance when configuring SSD caching. RAID information and drive health may be monitored through the QTS Storage & Snapshots Manager.
