Does it have a power on/off switch? It would be helpful to be able to turn it off so that headphones do not automatically connect when not desired.
According to Aluratek, "There is no power button for on and off. Since that unit does not have a charging battery inside it must be plugged in at all times."

No, your iPhone is also a transmitter. In transmit mode it will only connect with a bluetooth receiver.

I have an older receiver with wired speakers. If this is connected to my receiver, can I use it with a bluetooth device, such as my phone to connect with wireless speakers simultaneously? For example, I would like to have my music played through my home stereo w/ wired speakers inside and have bluetooth speakers for outside. Would this unit work for that? Is it even possible??
If I am understanding you correctly, you would need to purchase 2 of these to accomplish this. 1 setup to receive and one to transmit. Unfortunately this can only do on or the other not both at the same time.
The unit is "switchable". Hope this helps.

Does it act as an optical splitter, so wired output goes to sound bar and Bluetooth to headphones?
First two answers dont address the question. Assuming and optical audio out from TV to optical audio in on Aluratek, and assuming Bluetooth to headphones, can the optical audio out on Aluratek drive a sound bar simultaneously, and without lag? Samsung TVs make it difficult to have both a sound bar and Bluetooth for headphones.
