Magewell HDMI TX Reviews

Perfect Intro to NDI

This was my first use of NDI. Wanted a way to connect my Sony mirrorless camera to my PC. It turns out NDI has uses far beyond what I thought. Corporate shows with vMix, easy screen capture via HDMI, sending camera feeds to remote clients. This Magewell device simply works. It'll pass thru your signal up to 1080p60. I usually go into the backend and set it to half framerate, for video signal unity. Beautiful quality - indistinguishable from in-camera recordings (at 1080p 100 Mbps). And low latency. The PoE feature is so useful. One fewer cord in my tangle. I just wish it had HDMI Loop Out. But I know the next level up has that port.

Excellent NDI Encoder

Using this to convert HDMI output of a camcorder to NDI for use with OBS. It is a cheaper consumer grade camcorder used from the back of the room (sound control deck) to zoom in on the pulpit for streaming church services. Not a broadcast quality camcorder but the FHD and zoom are more that adequate for us. We already had this camcorder so adding the converter made more sense than buying an NDI enabled camera. The converter works great. It is easy to setup and it just works with no issue. It converts to full NDI which I prefer over NDI-HX because is has less latency. Most other converts under $500 only convert to NDI-HX. This converter is a good value for its price. I also use Magewell NDI decoders and those have been great also. I highly recommend this product and this brand.

I tent to have these in a rack. Have not tested anything longer than 20ft. I would think latency would be minimal but would probably recommend keeping the runs short if possible depending on network traffic and what content you were pushing to the encoder.
