ELAC BS243.4 Overview

Enjoy balanced stereo sound with your amplifier and this pair of satin black ELAC Carina BS243.4 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers. They feature a 2-way design with a JET folded ribbon tweeter and a 5.25" compound curvature aluminum cone woofer. The speakers accept up to 150W of power from your amplifier and have a 46 Hz to 30 kHz frequency response.

JET Folded Ribbon Tweeter
The JET tweeters are designed to provide fast response and a wide dynamic range with minimal distortion and a wide frequency range.
Compound Curvature Aluminum Woofer
To achieve a seamless transition between the woofer and the JET tweeter, the compound curvature cone was engineered to control the cone breakup and move it beyond the operating range of the woofer. A large diameter voice coil and oversized vented pole piece magnet combine to provide enhanced bass dynamics and performance.
Downward Firing Port
To help provide flexible speaker placement and to minimize ventilation noise, the bass reflex port is directed downward, exiting the bottom of the speaker cabinet in a down-firing configuration.

Ordered these for my son. Expected them to be very good but was still surprised just how good they are. The high-end and mid-range sound field is very precise and very smooth. The only call out is that the low-end is very dependent on speaker placement relative to the rear wall. This was called out in their Audiophile magazine review and my experience confirms it. Once we got the speakers about 12 from the back wall the bass imaging and power came into focus beautifully. These do not sounds like bookshelf speakers when set up properly. Running them with a good sounding older Sony STR-GX700ES Receiver with 70W/channel into 8-ohms.
