Hear Technologies M8RX Overview

The Hear Technologies Switch Back M8RX combines a personal Dante audio interface with a multichannel headphone monitoring station for live sound and studio recording applications. Small enough to be clipped on a belt, it gives musicians and broadcasters the option to record their performance while monitoring their mix—with one single tool. The unit can also be mounted on a mic stand or sit on a table to serve as a mini recording studio setup or a simple communication system.

The M8RX features a total of eight channels of audio mixing: two studio-quality XLR microphone preamps with 48V phantom, a 3.5mm stereo input, and 4x4 Dante network audio inputs/outputs. The headphone amplifier delivers 5W of power that enables you to listen to your audio with the same high quality as the company's Hear Back PRO and OCTO personal monitoring systems. You can individually control the level of the four Dante channels and the four analog inputs (with zero latency) to create your perfect personal mix.

The M8RX connects to a computer with a virtual sound card or a Dante-enabled mixing console via the Ethernet port, using an external PoE+ (Power-over-Ethernet+) injector (available separately). This allows the unit to be powered over the same Cat 6 cable used to transmit data.

Key Features
4x4 Dante I/O (4 Dante inputs and 4 Dante outputs)
Two Combo XLR-1/4" TRS balanced inputs on channels 1 and 2 for connecting microphones or instruments
Balanced 1/4" inputs automatically have 18 dB of padding over XLR inputs
True 48V phantom power remotely/locally selectable on each microphone input
3.5mm unbalanced stereo input for auxiliary sources such as metronome, iPod, external microphone preamp, and more
Master volume control for headphones
Zero-latency headphone monitoring of the local analog inputs
Easy access to all volume controls on face of unit
Compact concentric volume knobs allow volume control of local inputs using the tip, and Dante inputs using the rings
Dual-color signal and peak indicators on each input channel
Gain, phantom power, and Dante status indictors tucked away on rear of unit
Streamlined cable connections on rear of unit
Powered by PoE+
Remotely/locally selectable LED color on top for easy color-coding and identification
Other Notable Features
Two ultralow noise studio-quality discrete microphone preamplifiers
Burr-Brown 24-bit enhanced multilevel delta-sigma D/A conversion
Burr-Brown 24-bit delta-sigma A/D converters
Ultralow distortion of 0.001% THD+N (even with 60 dB of gain on the microphone preamp)
All 4 local analog input channels are made available on the Dante network as sources
Local volume control of up to 8 channels of audio (4 local analog inputs and 4 Dante digital inputs)
Remotely/locally adjustable microphone gain in selectable increments between 30 and 54 dB
PoE+ power guarantees ground isolation when using multiple M8RX interfaces
Standard CAT 6 cabling delivers power and Dante digital audio to the M8RX
Small enough to be clipped on your belt (with the included belt clip) or mounted on a stand using the built-in standard camera-tripod mount (1/4"-20 thread)
Optional Hear Technologies software for discovering M8RX interfaces on the network, controlling gain, phantom power, and LED color
Can be used standalone (without a Dante network connection) as a small microphone preamp, analog mixer, and headphone amplifier
