Ilford Premium Matt Duo Reviews

Gets the job done

I mean it's paper, you know what you're getting. I used this to produce tape J-cards and it holds up really well. The sheet takes the trimmer blade with ease and doesn't fray or flake when folded.

Good for a small book

This paper is long-grained, meaning its grain runs parallel to the long edge. Bind it parallel to that edge, making a book about 6 3/8 x 9 3/8 after trimming. Just use a 4-page imposed layout on each side, fold parallel to the short edge, fold again perpendicular to that, bind, trim off the first fold, and trim the remaining edges to square it up. It works great, and I think this is how this paper is intended to be used. Four stars because it's not acid-free, but that isn't as important for a book. NOTE: The colors are INTENTIONALLY MUTED in the attached image. I am trying for a sun-faded aesthetic for this project. They DO NOT represent what the paper is capable of.

Is this paper acid-free?
Asked by: Christopher
The term ‘acid-free’ relates to a library standard (ANSI Z39.48-1992 or ISO 11789) for uncoated paper and is used in reference to long term document storage. The term cannot be applied to resin-coated papers where the stability is mainly given by the polyethylene layers. While ILFORD RC papers meet the folding and tearing criteria of the standard, the base paper is not always alkaline. However the acidity of the paper pulp in an RC paper base does not have an impact on the long term storage of the image itself, due to the polyethylene layer in between image and paper. The inkjet receiving layer has to be slightly acidic to be compatible with inkjet inks.
