Nice heavy weight fiber paper which I wanted to try because I love Ilford Gallerie Smooth Gloss Pearl. Honestly my first few black and white prints were not that great. I think the paper setting was the one recommended but since this is a baryta paper I changed the setting to baryta on the Epson SC 900 and much better prints emerged with more depth and contrast. Even then more contrast needed to be added but afterwards the prints are great. I’m still undecided about this paper. If time is taken to fine tune and tweak settings it’s a fine choice. I really prefer the Canson Platine for BnW but the Ilford is more economical.

I tried this paper because someone from the company sent me so samples to help me find a particular type of paper that had been discontinued. It did not work as a substitute but I really liked the paper for other uses. Good all-around paper for black & white.

Ilford recommends Epson Ultra Glossy or Premium Semigloss Photo Paper when using the Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Pearl in an Epson printer.

What is "digital toning"?

That is when you add a hint of warm or cool color to a black and white photo. Many editing softwares such as Adobe Lightroom have a tab called Split Toning that allows you to add that hint of color to a black and white photo.
