Syrp Genie Mini II Overview

Create smooth and dynamic 2- or 3-axis motion videos using this Syrp Genie Mini II Pan and Tilt Kit put together by B&H. The kit comes with two Genie Mini II motion controllers, USB cables, a 1/4"-20 to 3/8"-16 thread adapter, and a pan and tilt bracket.

The circular design of the Genie Mini II provides smooth panning to create time-lapse and 360° video, and it can be controlled remotely via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The pan and tilt bracket's two-piece design allows you to mount one Genie Mini II for panning, and connect the other Genie Mini II vertically to create a tilt axis. Add a third axis to your setup by mounting the kit on a separately available slider.

Note:
An optional Link Cable is required for connecting your camera to the Genie Mini for time-lapse recording.

Syrp Genie Mini II Panning Motion Control System

Compact enough to fit into a small carry bag or even your coat pocket; the Syrp Genie Mini II is a portable and easy-to-use device for creating smooth panning motion time-lapses or real-time video. The Genie Mini II expands on its predecessor's features with the addition of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support, longer video recording battery life, a faster USB Type-C connection, and 360/VR panorama support.

The Genie Mini II is designed to sit between your camera and tripod and has an internal motor that enables 360° panning motion with cameras weighing up to 8.8 pounds. Control and setup is done wirelessly using a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection and Syrp's Genie 2 App for iOS and Android devices. To accommodate experienced and beginning time-lapse shooters, the Genie 2 app provides a useful set of presets, so you can start shooting right away. Advanced users will appreciate the faster Bluetooth 4.2 connection to take advantage of more complex, custom motion control settings and multi-row panoramas to create 360/VR images.

A lithium-ion battery provides approximately 15 hours of time-lapse and six hours of smooth, continuous video panning on a single charge. A USB Type-C cable is included for recharging the battery.

Note:
An optional Link Cable is required for connecting your camera to the Genie Mini for time-lapse recording.

Syrp Pan Tilt Bracket for Genie and Genie Mini

The Pan Tilt Bracket from Syrp allows you to create dynamic 2-axis and 3-axis time-lapse and real-time videos with varied combinations of Genie and Genie Minis. Two individual brackets are included: one to mount a Genie Mini in a vertical orientation onto a second Genie Mini (or Genie), and one to mount your camera. Under $1000CAD to get into the motion control game. Not too shabby. Easy to use. Build feels pretty decent. Battery is okay and you can power with external banks. Set up is easy. Definitely a good addition to any smaller freelance kit.

It is somewhat flimsy

After using one unit in the field for a panning timelapse, it seemed too flexible structure wise, the next day I tried using both units and the pan/tilt bracket. There was a lot of movement I noticed when assembling the pieces, as I was making the timelapse sequence, I noticed the movement was greater than using a single unit. Under conditions where there is no or very little wind, I am sure this would improve, none the less I think they need to be built more rigidly. For a hobbyist user they are OK, for more serious application, look at different products. Using my D7200 and my Tamron 17-50 lens I also noticed you need to add a shim under the camera, so the lens will clear the tilt bracket, and allow for a better distribution of weight, that is not the brackets fault, because it is flat, not a lot you can do with flat. Be aware of this if you use a large diameter lens. For now it does what I need, but down the road I will get a better made product.

I really like these, but they are SUPER loud

These are some great pan and tilt moters, super smooth and nice movements. The app is a bit buggy (for example when you first open them from the box, it's a very painful firmware updating process). They also take a minute to figure out which direction they want to start moving once you pair it with the XY axis control on the app. But once it's set up it's very smooth and flexible. Just note, I wouldn't recommend using these for interviews. They are INSANELY LOUD!!

How much weight (camera and lens) can the Syrp Genie Mini II pan and tilt kit support?
Asked by: Andres
An individual Syrp Genie Mini II from the Syrp Genie Mini II Panning Motion Control System (B&H# SY330001) can handle a panning (left and right) load of 8.8 lb (4 kg) or a tilting (up and down) load of 6.6 lb (3 kg). The weight of such a load must be centered on each head. The arms add some weight, so when put together as part of the Syrp Genie Mini II Pan and Tilt Kit (B&H# SY330001PTK), the whole system would be able to support a (centered) load of about 5 lb. (2.25 kg).
