Will a 2.2" width ssd fit securely in this?

You may need to add a spacer for 2.2" devices. The SHAPE Universal SSD Drive Clamp works with the 2.5 to 3.5″ wide drives.

will this fit the t7 shield? does it only mount by 1/4-20?

The Samsung T7 is too wide for the bite of the SHAPE Universal SSD Drive Clamp. It does only attach with 2x 1/4 20 screws.
