The lightweight 1 lb GXP Ball Head with Knob Clamp from Acratech has a 3-in-1 feature designed to have two more functions other than just your conventional ball head. The Arca-type clamp on the head is removable from its stem, and it is mountable in the reverse to the base of the ball head. With the clamp removed, the ball head's stem has the same 3/8"-16 mount as the base, which includes a reducer bushing. The clamp itself has a single bubble level that allows you to balance and level out the ball. At the same time, you can unlock the independent pan lock and rotate lenses as large as 400mm and equipment weighing up to 50 lb. Together with a laser-engraved numbered scale, you can precisely create panoramic images by turning the ball head at incremental stops.

In addition to the two other good answers, a knob-type clamp can compensate for differences in the exact width or bevel angles on different manufacturer's Arca-Swiss plates. Only a few lever clamps can compensate for such differences in the plates. Really Right Stuff's B2-LR-II will accept some variation (I suspect it uses a Bellevile washer) per RRS website "Starting in 2012, ... Really Right Stuff lever-release clamps were redesigned to automatically adjust to accept all Arca-Swiss style plates except Arca-Swiss P0 Slidefix plates and plates made by Novoflex." A few other lever clamps can compensate via a knob adjustment on the opposite jaws.
Some lever clamps such as RRS have an intermediate position which allows sliding the A-S plate withing the limits of the plate's safety stops. However, you can also just loosen a knob clamp slightly with the same result.
All my A-S clamps use knobs except for my one RRS B2-LR-II.
