I was initially very skeptical about this quick‐release set, but after using it with my Arca‐Swiss Monoball Z1 SP and Arca‐Swiss d4 Geared Head on a Gitzo tripod, it completely exceeded my expectations. The low profile, light weight, exceptional strength, and beautifully smooth finish make it feel like a true premium component. Head swapping is now fast, easy, and absolutely secure. The locking strength is outstanding — rock solid, far beyond what I anticipated. In actual field use, it performs like a precision‐machined masterpiece. The price is definitely on the high side, but it has changed how I work. I now detach my Arca‐Swiss d4 after each session and store it in my rolling case, something I never bothered doing before. This convenience even has me considering the Arca‐Swiss C1, knowing it would be just as easy to remove after use. I also own the Manfrotto XCHANGE, which is a very good product. But if you use Arca‐Swiss heads, the matching finish, low profile, and overall sleekness of this system make it especially compelling. It’s absolutely worth evaluating for your workflow. Highly recommended.

Easy to swap your ballheads or gears between tripods. Cons: Wish it was cheaper. Get the base receiver and mate it with the Leofoto Q70 quick connecting plate for a more affordable set up.

Hello,
I am not sur if you are talking about the full quicklink or the inside disk so I will try to be exhaustive.
The height of the full Quicklink is 17.5 mm, It means that the wuickli,k will add +17.5 mm in height to your tripod head.
The disk when installed in the receiver is included in the 17.5mm. However the thickness of the disk is 8.5 mm at its maximum and 3 mm for the thickness which engages in the receiver.

Regarding the locking mechanism .... When placing the head on the tripod, does the cameral have to be turned to lock it in place or does the 'locking ring' get turned to lock down the head to the tripod? Can the camera then be turned and accidentally unlock the head from the tripod?

No, you do not need to turn the camera or the tripod head. You screw the Quicklink disk on the bottom of your tripod head. Then you screw the Quicklink receiver on your tripod. When you install your tripod head in the receiver, there is only one possible position: when the 3 pins of the receiver enter the 3 openings of the Quicklink disk. Then no rotation of the head is possible. Finish by locking the head by turning the receiver ring. Here is an interesting review of the ARCA-SWISS QuickLink.
