Offering a shorter, lighter body than the S-Mic 2, the Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S moisture-resistant short shotgun microphone helps boom operators achieve broadcast-quality sound in reality TV, interviews, indie films, and documentaries, and its wider pickup pattern simplifies the capture of multiple subjects in the same shot.

Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry and anti-RF interference construction minimize the need for noise reduction after recording. Thanks to the high sensitivity of the S-Mic 2S, robust output levels are possible without having to max out your preamp's gain control. Tonally, the S-Mic 2S offers the same sonic signature as the S-Mic 2—smooth and warm with low off-axis coloration and natural attenuation of bass frequencies below 50 Hz.

You'll find no switches, buttons, or dials on the S-Mic 2S, so you always depend on it to deliver consistent sound, reliability, and ease of use. The ultralightweight solid brass housing ensures toughness gig after gig, and its black speckle paint provides low reflectivity and added durability.

Ideal for Indoor/Outdoor Use
The construction of the mic body is computer machined from solid brass inside and out, and no plastic is used anywhere in the construction to hold it together or mount the PCB. The S-Mic 2S uses a high-end capsule, computer-designed circuitry, and a gold-coated PCB (printed circuit board).

The PCB is also sprayed and coated with a clear epoxy, which allows the microphone to perform without issues even in the most humid environments. This coating also gives the microphone a water-resistance level that allows it to work in the rain without being damaged. The body of the microphone has been sprayed with a black speckle paint to give it an ultra-durable finish, so it looks professional in front of clients for years of ownership while being less reflective on set.
Broadcast-Quality Sound for Multi-Subject Shoots
The S-Mic 2S was engineered to give you broadcast-quality sound on a reasonable budget. Compared to the 9.8" long S-Mic 2, the S-Mic 2S's 5.8" long body and slightly wider pickup pattern yield directivity that's well suited for productions with multiple subjects in the same scene. It has a low noise floor of 15 dBA and an anti-RF interference build, allowing it to maintain less background noise even with significant gain boosts.
Friendly for Long Days
Weighing just 3 ounces, the ultralightweight S-Mic 2S won't burden your boompole. Whether you use it for quick shoots or long days, the S-Mic 2S won't slow you down.
Phantom Powered
Featuring a balanced 3-pin XLR output and support for 24V or 48V phantom powering, the S-Mic 2S is ready for use with a variety of devices such as multitrack field recorders, handheld audio recorders, camera-mount mixer adapters, and XLR-equipped cinema cameras.
Ideal for Boompole Mounting
The S-Mic 2S includes a mic clip with a 3/8" thread for easy placement on a boompole and a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners.
Waterproof Hardshell Case
To better protect your microphone, the S-Mic 2S comes with a waterproof hardshell case. The case features a rubber O-ring in the lid that seals the case tight and an auto air-pressure balanced feature, ensuring your microphone is safe and ready to go.

This microphone is only 5.8 inches long. Both of the previous suggestions seem kind of long. Wouldn't a 2.7 inch Rycote, or the 4 inch, small Bumblebee Windkiller be a better fit?
Asked by: John
Yes, those would work as well.

why would you choose the short version over regular?
Asked by: Patrick
A short shotgun microphone is good for use with compact cameras and often preferred for run-and-gun setups. A short shotgun microphone can pickup audio from several feet away and longer mics have the ability to pickup audio from a further distance. So if you were recording sounds that are further away, you would want to use the longer microphone.

You can use a shockmount like the Auray SHM-ESG Suspension Shockmount for Shotgun Microphones (B&H # AUSHMESG),the RODE SM4-R Suspension Shockmount (B&H # ROSM4R), the Airo by K-Tek ASM1 Shockmount 1 (B&H # AIASM1), or the Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shockmount (B&H # AUAT8415).

Will this mic diameter fit well on the mic holder that comes with the Fx6?
Asked by: Andres
Although Sony does not specify the diameter of or compatibility for the microphone holder found on the FX6, the 0.75" diameter found on the Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone is relatively common and will likely fit nicely inside the FX6 microphone holder.

Is this mic capable with the Sony a7 IV ?
Asked by: Chris
The Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone requires a 48V-enabled XLR connection, which is not found directly on the Sony A7IV Camera. To connect the Deity S-Mic 2S to a camera such as the Sony A7IV you would need to implement a camera mixer such as BH #SASRPAX1 Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, which would provide the preamp needed by the Deity S-Mic 2S and calibrate the audio signal to the level expected by the Sony A7IV audio input.
