Ideal for use in wide open and expansive terrain, like the plains of the American West, where observing game and other subjects at extreme long distances, the Kowa 12x50 SV II Binocular is optimized for long-range observations in all light conditions—from the pre-dawn hours all the way through the last light of dusk.

To deliver its performance, Kowa employs anti-reflection fully multi-coated lens coatings on the oversized 50mm objectives, phase-correction coatings on the roof prisms, and oil-resistant exterior lens coatings that work together to keep the lenses clean and produce crisp, clear, and bright high-contrast images with accurate color representation. Added to this performance is an apparent angle of view that approaches wide angle that minimizes the appearance of the distracting hand shake that is often experienced when holding high-power optics such as this, making it more comfortable to look through for long periods of time. A standard 1/4"-20 threaded socket on the front of the bridge hinge allows you to install an optional tripod adapter so you can use the SV II hands-free and eliminate shaking and arm fatigue.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details that make this binocular durable and comfortable to use. It has a lightweight polycarbonate chassis and is protected by rubberized armor that gives it a secure non-slip grip even in cold and wet conditions. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature variations and environmental conditions. A one-piece ocular rainguard covers the eyecups as the binocular hangs around the neck and prevents rain and spraying water from filling them, and it attaches to the included neck strap to prevent it from being lost on the forest floor.

Optical Performance

  • Designed for use in wide and open terrain such as the American West, where extreme long-distance observation and identification are common
  • Powerful 12x power brings distant subjects in close for detailed observations
  • Large 50mm objective lenses ensure that views remain crisp and clear despite the high magnification, and produce bright and clear views in low and challenging light
  • Roof prism light path produces a compact form factor without sacrificing performance
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission, color rendition, clarity, and contrast
  • Phase-correcting prism coatings eliminate internal light diffraction to improve clarity and contrast
  • Apparent angle of view approaches wide angle to help reduce the appearance of the distracting hand shake associated with holding high-power optics to enhance the viewing experience
  • 276-foot field of view at 1000 yards

Use and Handling

  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a solid and stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large rubber-coated center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate, even in cold and wet conditions or when wearing gloves
  • 58.5-72mm interpupillary distance adjustment range enables easy use by people of all sizes
  • Right-eye dioptric correction allows the user to fine-tune the focusing to their individual eyesight—even if they wear corrective lenses
  • Integrated 1/4"-20 threaded adapter socket on front of bridge hinge allows the optic to be tripod mounted with an optional adapter
  • Twist-up multi-position rubber eyecups for comfortable use and correct eye relief, with or without eyewear
  • 15.5mm eye relief reduces eyestrain and improves overall viewing comfort
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover most pupils as they open and begin to dilate in low light, keeping the scene bright and clear as the light fades

Construction Details

  • Impact-resistant polycarbonate chassis reduces weight without sacrificing strength and stability
  • Chassis material is temperature resistant, preventing the expansion and contraction that is common with metal, which can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time and prevent sharp focus
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes or environmental conditions
  • Protective rubber armor provides a slip-resistant grip
  • Oil-resistant KR exterior lens coatings make it easy for dirt, sap, and oil to be easily cleaned off without smudges or residue
  • One-piece tethered ocular rainguard protects eyecups from water pooling in them from rain or spraying water when hanging from the neck
  • 26.2-ounce weight
