FotodioX 4X5-NKZ-P Overview

This Multi-Position Stitching Adapter from FotodioX allows a Nikon Z-mount camera to serve as a digital back on a view camera that features a Graflok back. While in use, this adapter permits the creation of images in the landscape or portrait orientation. Images can be generated from individual captures. Alternatively, multiple captures that are aligned using the adapter's integrated sliding mechanism can be combined to create an image with an increased field of view and a larger file size using separately available stitching software.

The front of this adapter consists of an interface plate that mounts directly onto a Graflok back. The rear of the interface plate holds a sliding panel with a bayonet for a Nikon Z-mount camera. A Nikon Z-mount camera connected to the adapter can be placed in the landscape or portrait orientation by rotating the sliding panel's bayonet. The sliding panel can be shifted and aligned according to a three-point interval scale on the rear of the interface plate. The central point can be used to orient the camera to generate an image from a single capture. Without otherwise moving the camera or the view camera it is adapted to, three captures, one at each point of the interval scale, can later be combined to form an image with triple the field of view and horizontal resolution.

Alternatively, a secondary interval scale on the rear of the interface plate is specifically provided for use while a connected camera is in the landscape orientation. That interval scale can be used to generate two overlapping captures that can later be combined to form an image with 1.7x the field of view and horizontal resolution of a single image from a Nikon Z-mount camera.

Aluminum alloy locking knobs for the sliding panel and its rotatable bayonet allow each of those components to be firmly held in place during the capture process. To further enhance this adapter's durability, the rotatable bayonet, sliding panel, and the Graflok back-compatible interface plate are constructed from brass.

FotodioX 4X5-NKZ-P Reviews

this really needs an instruction manual or QR code to a manual page

The product arrived with zero documentation and in its as-shipped state would not fit a Nikon Z6 and clear the right hand grip. However, a video chat with a friendly B&H employee and his web surfing revealed a video showing that pulling on the Z-mount caused it to extend allowing clearance for the Z6 body. With that information, I was able to mount my Z6 to my 4x5 Speed Graphic and take photos with its 127mm Kodak Ektar lens. If only it had a QR code to that video, I would have given it 5 stars.
