I needed a gooseneck for attaching a light to my homemade copy stand and this did the job. For anyone wondering about the threaded ends, the male thread is 3/8-16 UNC and about a half inch long. The female thread is 3/8-24 UNF. It would have been nice if the male thread was a bit longer as the flex is a bit stiff and there's going to be a lot of stress on that connection, however the stiffness is desired so that the gooseneck stays put. I'd guess the thread spec is for connecting to some common mic attachments (UNF on one end, UNC on the other) and there's a reason why there's only 1/2 thread on the male end.
