Helping to better visualize your shoots, the Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera with Pro Monitoring Kit from B&H bundles the full-frame mirrorless body with an Atomos Shinobi 5.2" 4K HDMI Monitor, an HDMI cable, and a monitor mount.

Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera

Impressively small despite having a large full-frame sensor, the Canon EOS RP offers flexible imaging capabilities along with a portable form factor. Featuring a high-resolution 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor along with a DIGIC 8 image processor, both stills and UHD 4K video can be recorded using a broad sensitivity range, from ISO 100-40000, to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Continuous shooting is also supported at up to 5 fps for photographing moving subjects. The sensor also facilitates an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, with 4779 selectable on-sensor phase-detection points for quickly and accurately acquiring focus during stills and video operation.

Complementing the sensor and processor, the RP also sports a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder along with a rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD monitor for easier viewing from high and low angles. Additionally, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow for wireless remote camera control along with direct image sharing to linked mobile devices.

Canon RF Lens Mount

The EOS RP features the RF lens mount, which support Canon's line of RF-mount lenses. This mount is characterized by its wide 54mm diameter and short 20mm flange-back distance, which promotes the ability to design lenses that are both faster and smaller than their SLR equivalents. The mount also incorporates a 12-pin electronic contact system for more sophisticated autofocus and image stabilization capabilities. This mount design also lends full compatibility to existing EF and EF-S-mount lenses via an optional EF-EOS R Mount Adapter.

26.2MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor

A large 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor is featured and serves as an ideal balance between high-resolution output, low-light performance, and high-speed capabilities. When paired with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the EOS RP has a wide native sensitivity range from ISO 100-40000 for working in a variety of lighting conditions. Additionally, continuous shooting up to 5 fps is possible for working with moving subjects.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face or Eye Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery. Additionally, the focus system is sensitive down to EV -5 for working in truly low-light conditions with accurate AF capabilities.

UHD 4K Video Recording

Designed for multimedia image-maker, the EOS RP supports UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution recording at up to 23.98 fps at 120 Mb/s, along with Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at 60 fps for slow motion playback. When recording in-camera, 4K video has 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color depth, and 4:2:2 8-bit output is possible when using an external recorder.

Audio can be recorded using the on-board stereo microphone or an optional external mic can also be used via the 3.5mm mic jack.

Also, 5-axis Dual Sensing IS can be used when recording video to electronically reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper, smoother recording.

Body Design

  • Integrated 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder affords a bright and clear means for eye-level viewing.
  • Rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD features a vari-angle design for easier use when working from high, low, and front-facing angles. It is also a touchscreen for intuitive control over shooting, playback, and menu navigation controls.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enable wireless sharing, control, and image transfer with a compatible smart device via the Canon Camera Connect app, which also supports geotagging your files using your mobile device's location data.
  • In-camera charging over USB is supported for easier on-the-go charging.

EOS Webcam Utility

Extending the capabilities of the camera, Canon's EOS Webcam Utility software lets you turn your camera into a versatile webcam by just connecting it to a computer via USB. Compatible with a variety of streaming apps, including ZOOM, YouTube Live, Microsoft Teams, and more, this software also maintains the ability to record internally while livestreaming.

Atomos Shinobi 5" 4K HDMI Monitor

The Shinobi 5" 4K HDMI Monitor is an on-camera monitor with DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD video input. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², which makes it suitable for use in both exterior and interior conditions. The AtomHDR display technology allows you to accurately monitor your log gamma footage without having to view flat, washed-out looking images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and color space. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras.

Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Shinobi features a lightweight plastic chassis and powers from a single L-series battery. Additional features include a variety of onscreen exposure analysis, framing, and focus assist tools, as well as anamorphic de-squeeze. A 12V power supply with L-series battery eliminator is included with the unit.

AtomHDR

With AtomHDR you can monitor up to ten stops of dynamic range of your camera's LOG image. Most conventional monitors can only display six or seven stops, which is fine for standard footage; but a Log image will look overly flat. It is also superior to monitoring with a loaded LUT, which can clip the highlights and mask shadows.

HDR Signal Management

Log and HDR signals can be difficult to monitor with conventional equipment. Though, with the Shinobi's built-in HDR signal management functions, the log signal can be converted to the PQ standard for compatibility with existing consumer and professional HDR equipment.

Canon RP Reviews

Oh

I was looking forward to using this camera, my first mirrorless as I had seen the astoundingly tack sharp pics. Gorgeous, sharp. I could not get the camera to focus. It back focused so I had to try to cheat it. Only a couple of keepers. I can't comment on the lenses as they were affected by this. I have bought the 50 mpg with mirror.

I love it!

Loving it so far. Nothings perfect. The small form factor suits me just fine. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I just wanted to upgrade to full frame and stay with the Canon EOS product line. I bought a Canon 16mm F2.8 RF lens and a ProMediaGear L-bracket to use for real estate photography. Quiet and small too. Still learning about the camera. Some tweaking is required with white balance settings. Could be just my inexperience with the camera and lens. I'll figure it out.

Absolutely love this camera

I was using a Nikon DX camera before and wanted to move up to Full Frame. I debated and researched the differences between this Canon RP and the Nikon Z5 and I'm so happy with this camera. I'm now a Canon convert. The weight and fit in my hands is perfect, the colors I get from Raw with minimal processing are absolutely amazing.

Best camera

For Aspiring Beginning Photographers

By Marcia

There are thousands of reviews to view and read on the gamut of competitive DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras. I compared and studied for over a year but didn't read/see them all. Many could be eliminated by price, audience/market, and bells and whistles. What I was looking for as a hobby iPhone photographer and Photoshop enthusiast was a simple full frame camera for photographs that could keep me interested during the learning curve while providing the right environment to advance. The iPhone 13 pro max camera I'm using now has severe limitations, I run into them daily, but its also always with me and easy to get good shots in a range of situations without much thought (I know). I needed more and better -for a growing hobby- but not overkill and not overwhelming for this recovering, point and shoot, camera user. First off: I love the feel of the camera itself. It was love at first sight. It's comfortable for my hand (female, 5'4'') and feels sturdy not cheap or plasticky and it's easy weight-wise (with a 35 mm RF lens) but not at all cumbersome. It is well-balanced with this lens and I imagine would be with larger lenses too. The manual covers a nice range of shooting scenarios to explain the options and the instructions are easy to read. Turning it on, installing battery and card are easy and intuitive. My first photos didn't need instructions at all. The lens, btw, expresses itself beautifully). I read about the Canon Connect app and downloaded it and was transferring those photos to my phone and sharing them within minutes. One of the features I didn't care about at all and in fact want to get away from is the video. I won't be using it regularly, if at all and I didn't want the cost of the camera influenced by a feature I didn't need or want. So there is video and all I can say is, it is easy to ignore. I wish the screen was larger. It's 3 inches which is comparable to many other cameras but feels a bit small coming after an iphone max screen. That's really my only complaint. As I said, I'm a beginner to these cameras and there may be annoyances down the road but it certainly fulfills my goal of a simple to learn mirrorless that my hobby will be able to grow with and benefit from for several years. The camera was a body only purchase with separate rf lenses purchased individually.

Better than I ever expected, when I first bought it, I thought it was a rash purchase. It took me some time to adapt to the jump so far ahead in cameras. Coming from ASP-C T2i, which was more akin to 35mm I started on. The features were overwhelming at first, set it aside for months. I regret not putting more time into it then. My images went from good to amazing. I will be soon upgrading to R6, and hopefully one day an R3. Thanks B&H!

This is my first introduction into the R series of Canon mirrorless line. I really enjoy how quick it is. I'm coming from a 5d Mark ii. I've enjoyed it so far. Good images, easy to use.

Yes, it crops to a 1.6 APS-C size. You can use EF-S lenses like the Canon 10-22mm to regain a wide view. When used with adapters such as the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, the sensor is automatically cropped.
