IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine (ft) Overview

By B&H Photo's

Designed for cine-style image capture and covering up to full-frame size sensors, the Micro Four Thirds-mount 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens from IRIX incorporates multiple internal and external design features. External features include a 95mm front diameter, 0.8 MOD gears, luminous focus marks in feet, and a detachable 1/4"-20 support foot. Internally, nine blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh and five seals protect against inclement weather and dust.

To help eliminate aberrations and distortion, the IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens is constructed with 11 optical elements in nine groups including four HR (high refractive index) and three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. This lens has 180° of focus and 75° of iris rotation and incorporates an 86mm front filter thread.

45mm Focal Length
A 45mm focal length with a Micro Four Thirds lens mount is ideal for capturing crisp details and vibrant colors.
Full-Frame Coverage
The 43.3mm image circle of this lens covers up to full-frame format sensors.
Rounded Bokeh
Produces the "IRIX look" with shallow depth of field and a 9-blade iris for smooth, rounded bokeh.
Fast T1.5 Aperture
  • Fast T1.5 maximum aperture enables you to capture images in low light levels without having to crank up your ISO setting.
  • Matching maximum aperture, color, and contrast with the 21 and 45mm primes.
Weather Sealing
Sealed against rain, snow, and dust like the rest of the IRIX cine series and able to withstand a wide range of temperatures.
0.8 MOD Gears
Cine-style 0.8 MOD geared focus and aperture rings.
95mm Front Diameter
Industry-standard 95mm front diameter is compatible with most matte boxes.
Focus Marks in Feet
Luminous markings in feet are engraved for durability.
Smooth Focusing
Focus ring adjusts smoothly between manual and motor control.

Would this be a good lens for astrophotography? And what about Timelapse work?
Asked by: Fred
The IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Canon RF, Feet, Black) can be used for astrophotography and time-lapse work. But most prefer a lens that is wider.

I want to mount this lens on my PL-mount ZCAM camera and on my EF-mount Blackmagic 6K Pro. Which adapter ring is best?
Asked by: Richard
There are two options that would allow you to mount a PL lens like the IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens to your Black Magic Pocket 6K Pro. The best option is from Wooden ( BH #WO274700) which would convert your P6K to a PL mount camera. Also there are PL to EF adapters ( BH #FOPCEAAP ) that could also be an option. Please note that the IRIX lens has not been tested with the FotodioX PL to EF adapter.

Is this considered a FF lens? So on a S35 chip the focal length would be 1.5x magnification?
Asked by: Jesse
All lenses when put on an APSC/S35 will require the 1.5x magnification math if you're wanting to compare field of view to FF, regardless of whether they have an image circle big enough for FF. So to answer your question: this lens will look the same on an S35/APCS size sensor as any "S35/APSC only" lens with the same focal length of 45mm.
