Shimoda Designs Carry-On Roller Version 2 Reviews

First Impressions

I’m hoping to use this very soon, but so far I can only give my initial impressions.  First of all, as expected for Shimoda, the materials feel great and durable. I’m not concerned about that, and it’s one of the reasons I bought it.  I think it feels lighter than it looks like on paper. Sometimes, structure can do that to a bag. I love the opening and side pocket options. It rolls very nicely. I haven’t loaded it out, but I don’t expect anything different. It is only a tad taller than my Explore V2 backpack. I decided to try putting that in (not loaded but with the cube in) and then tried my PD 20L everyday backpack. They both fit (separately), but I couldn’t quite close it. I’d like to try some other load outs yet. My intent really is to use it as a regular carryon, possibly sometimes with camera gear in it. My one niggle is the handle. It’s a bit finicky. If I want to pull it from the first “stop”, it just pulls out to the full length. If I want to push it from the first “stop”, it wants to collapse, although it can be done if I’m careful. It’s like it doesn’t catch at the lower height. It may just be my unit. I don’t know if I’ll regret it, but I decided it wasn’t worth an exchange/return. The handles I have tried in the past have always had something to work around. Overall, I like the bag, and I’m looking forward to using it.

Better than expected

We were planning a trip to Iceland so I needed a carry on that would fit my z8 and lenses. So I ordered the action x50. Then I started have back issues and packing that much weight became an issue. So I switched to this and the dslr large icu. Best decision I made. I bulk carry my gear in this and when on hikes use the peak design shoulder bag for just exactly what I need. This worked out very well and I am super happy with this setup.

Will this accommodate a Nikkor 800mm Z lens with Z8 attached?
Asked by: W Allen
The Shimoda Designs Carry-On Roller Version 2 (Black) could fit the Nikkor 800mm Z lens, when separate from the camera body. When attached to the camera body, the total length, will exceed the interior length dimension, which would be less than ideal.

A core unit is not included with the purchase of the Shimoda Designs Carry-On Roller Version 2. Core units must be purchased separately. The Shimoda Designs Carry-On Roller Version 2 holds all core units up to a Large DSLR Core Unit or the new Large DSLR Core Unit Version 2.

The Shimoda Designs Carry-On Roller Version 2 (Black) does not list the support weight for the bag. It is made to be a carry on so there are limits for that. in general.
